Hummingbirds Won't Use This Feeder

I have tons of hummingbirds in my yard but they will not feed out of this feeder for some reason. I bought two of these, replacing some older, smaller feeders. They fly to the feeder, investigate and leave. Don't know what the problem is - I have tried two different kinds of nectar. They definitely do not like this feeder. So disappointing.

We are sorry about this! Have you checked the feeder to make sure nectar has flowed down to fill the base? If it isn't, we recommend trying to loosen the base just a little bit to allow the base to fill with nectar.

I just bought this feeder at Home Depot because it is plastic and inexpensive. I had two beautiful and expensive blown glass hummingbird feeders. One was destroyed by a bear (hope he didn't hurt himself too much chomping down on it!) and the other one, I tightened too much and it cracked in two places. It was still usable because it wasn't leaking but I decided to err on the side of safety and throw it out. When I saw the price of this one and the fact that it is plastic, I decided to give it a try. I just saw all the reviews complaining about it leaking and not holding the water. I tightened it good and so far so good....no leaking! I figured it was worth a try for the price. Now all I have to do is keep the squirrels away from it!

We're sorry to hear that this is happening with your feeder. When filling a feeder, it is important to ensure that the base and bottle are tightened so they are snug. We also suggest hanging the feeder in a shaded location, free of wind and direct sunlight. As the sun warms up the nectar inside the bottle, the liquid will expand, which can cause some to leak.

The Good: large capacity.

The Bad: As the hummer feeds a bubble is created in the nectar. The air bubble cannot escape, so I have seen the hummers check all 4 ports, the fly away. The only way to get the bubble out is to shake the feeder. I am not using the feeder any longer but certainly would like to, for when I am away from the house for a week. I also purchased 4 planter box feeders, which work so much better. You can actually see the air bubble disperse through the nectar as the hummer is feeding. Much better design. However, due to smaller capacity, I am filling every other day.

The presence of a bubble could be due to over-tightening of the base and bottle. Terrible design it leaks no matter what!

Although it's cheap it should still work. I bought this and filled it immediately all the solution spewed out of the feeding holes. I even tried to read how to fix and the company says to make sure it's screwed on tight. . . It STILL spewed sugar water solution everywhere. The only thing it attracted was ants and bugs. I exchanged it and we'll IT STILL LEAKS. Don't waste your money unless you enjoy paying for a $5 piece of plastic.

After threading the base onto the bottle securely, make sure the feeder is turned upright very quickly. This will create a vacuum inside and keeps the nectar from leaking.

Horrible. Water poured out in less than a minute

I just got this at Home Depot. Filled it up, took it out back and water poured out of all four feeding holes. No instructions with it. Straight in the trash. I wasn't expecting much for the price but I sure expected more than this. If I missed something, then instructions might have helped.

Design problems

Dear Sir.
Have purchased three Garden Song Lantern feeders.
Like the feeder but the nectar holder is paper thin at the top corners and after several months they develop cracks and loose all the nectar. Have patched one but this is the second one in two years that has failed, the construction should be thicker.
Like the feeder cleaning mop works very well.
Purchased your 30 oz. nectar item 209b feeder from Target several months ago.
Have tried everything to keep nectar in it but it leaks out.
Have glued base together but leaks out of flowers.
When it sways in the wind it leaks.
THIS WAS A BAD DESIGN

We appreciate this feedback regarding both our Garden Song® Lantern Hummingbird Feeder, model 201 as well as our Perky-Pet® “Our Best” Glass Hummingbird Feeder with Free Nectar, model 209B.
When the base of the 209B is tightly secured it should not be leaking. If the wind is tilting it to the point of leaking, we recommend moving it to a more sheltered location. This will help keep the nectar in the feeder, and hummingbirds often prefer to feed in calm environments.

My Hummingbirds really love this - i had one previously that was cracked by a crummy raccoon. But i was lucky to receive this nice new hummingbird feeder in just 2 days! My hummingbirds are very pleased. This item is easy to clean, too! I just have to remember to bring the feeder in at nighttime so no more raccoons get it. You will enjoy this feeder.

This is a great little hummingbird feeder. I noticed a pair of hummingbirds frequent the lilies on my deck, so I decided to get a feeder for the little fellows. A day after installing, I see them dart to and from this feeder almost every hour. There is no questioning that this feeder is naturally attractive to the birds. As for ease of use, it a bottle that you screw into a base; it's insanely simple and I saw no reason it would be hard to clean. This is a steal, as far as I'm concerned. Sure, it might not be the most attractive thing in the world, but, it's a hummingbird feeder - no one's going to dock you points for aesthetics when they see how successful it is at bringing these incredibly interesting birds to your windows. No kidding, as I write this review one just flew up for a drink. It just plain works for them, and for me.
