Description
Lyric® Golden Safflower Bird Seed - 5 lb. Bag

Lyric® Golden Safflower Bird Seed

Lyric® Golden Safflower Seed is an organic, chemical-free hybrid safflower called NutraSaff™ that is more nutritious than white safflower. It contains 15% more oil, 25% more protein, and 30% more fat. The hull of our NutraSaff™ Golden Safflower seed is very thin, which makes it easier for birds to eat and digest.

Safflower seed is bitter tasting to squirrels. This seed is also a deterrent to common bully birds such as the European Starling and the Common Grackle. Eliminate nuisance feeders, while providing more nutrition to the birds you want to see.

Lyric® Golden Safflower Seed feeds and attracts: Acorn Woodpecker, Carolina Chickadee, Eastern Towhee, Mountain chickadee, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Spotted Towhee, Black-capped Chickadee, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Evening Grosbeak, Northern Cardinal, Red-headed Woodpecker, Stellar's Jay, California Towhee, Downy Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and White-breasted Nuthatch.

Lyric® Golden Safflower Ingredients: NutraSaff™ Safflower Seed.

Storage: Store in a sealed container, in a cool dry place. StayFresh® Technology keeps seed fresh while in original packaging only.

Quality seed for birds AND squirrels By Gatorgal

Birds are happy with it, but I bought it to be a deterrent for squirrels. Didn't work, my squirrels are happily munching on it.

Great for attracting birds By lc52
I found this product out of my area where I live. Bought two bags of it and when I just about ran out I googled it and found a place close to my home that sells it. I will not go back to feeding the white safflower ever again. The birds really enjoy the golden much better than the white. A lot of other birds eat it not just the cardinals.

FAQs

Lyric® Golden Safflower Bird Seed - FAQs

Q: What is safflower?

A: Safflower is a thistle-like plant that is considered one of the first crops cultivated by mankind. Vegetable oil can be extracted from its seeds and its yellow flower petals can be used as a natural fabric dye.

As a human food source, it's used in the production of margarine. Its oil is sometimes used in cooking. Safflower seeds are sometimes used as a health supplement, too.

As a bird seed, safflower seeds are often used as a substitute for sunflower seeds and can attract Northern Cardinals and several other species.

Q: How do I introduce safflower seed to my feeder?

A: Your birds may not instantly realize that safflower seeds are edible. Give them a week or two to discover it.

During that time, squirrels may sift through your feeders as they hunt for the seed they really want. Don't give up! Eventually, those squirrels will realize there's nothing in your feeders for them and find food elsewhere.

Q: What birds enjoy safflower seeds?

A: The primary bird you can expect to attract is the Northern Cardinal. Beyond cardinals, individual birds can also develop a taste for safflower. Among those occasional bird safflower eaters are grosbeaks, doves, chickadees and North American sparrows.

Generally, squirrels don't like safflower seeds.
