Bees and ants can become more active around hummingbird feeders, especially during periods of hot weather, nectar shortages, or if nectar has spilled on the outside of the feeder. To help reduce insect activity, we recommend cleaning any spilled nectar from the feeder, ensuring the ant moat remains filled with water, changing the nectar regularly, and placing the feeder in a shaded location if possible. If bees continue to be an issue, temporarily removing the feeder for a day or two or relocating it a short distance can sometimes encourage them to move on while allowing hummingbirds to quickly find it again.
