birds don't eat out of it. the seeds get wet and have to be cleaned out. have no instructions to install weather guards. costly bird feeder that don't workResponse From Perky-Pet®Susan : Consumer Relations Representative
Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback, we apologize that the instructions were not included with this feeder.
To attach the weather guards, clip each guard onto the horizontal bar on each side of the cage, just below the circle.
When placing a new feeder, the birds may take some time to adjust. To help aid in this transition, we recommend placing a shiny pie pan with some seed under the feeder.

Review RateSquirrel proof and almost bird proofIt's been hanging for a year. Yes, I've changed the seed. The squirrels have learned not to bother it, but the birds don't either. The seeds don't feed down from the hopper because the ones that are already there get wet and become a solid chunk. The feeding tray is too deep for most birds to reach the seed through the openings. I am sorry that I bought it.Response From Perky-Pet®Tara : Consumer Relations RepresentativeWe apologize for this experience and appreciate the feedback.
Birds tend to like to feed in a calm sheltered location. We recommend taking the feeder down when a heavy rain is coming. This will help prevent the seed from getting wet.

Review RatePoor performanceI got my feeder for Christmas 2015. The birds avoid it. It does not fill with seed enough for most birds to reach. I have four other feeders i fill most days and have tried leaving them empty for a few days to no avail. I love watching the birds. So disappointed.Response From Perky-Pet®Susan : Consumer Relations RepresentativeHello Jan,
We apologize that the desired results were not seen with this feeder. Birds are creatures of habit and can sometimes take several weeks to adjust to a new feeder. To aid in the transition, we recommend removing any established feeders in the area until the new feeder is being used regularly. Placing a shiny pie pan underneath the feeder with some seed on it can also help guide the birds to the new addition.

Review RateLove this feeder!Hi: This is my second Fortress Squirrel Proof bird feeder! The plastic liner on my first was cracked at the seams after our neighborhood bird hunting cat decided to jump on it and knock it to the ground. It was more than 6 years in use and came with me from Illinois to California; it probably would have lasted at least 6 more if it wasn't for that darn cat! I love that it's so easy to fill and does what it's supposed to do!
Review RateNot working well for the smaller birdsI notice that the smaller birds have difficulty getting there beeks into the seed basin they then migrate over to a tube feeder i have and that seed goes quickly, a little disappointed.Anyone else notice this? any tips?
Review RateAmazon Review, It works!I can not believe it, but it actually works! I have a terrible squirrel problem with my other feeders. Approx 10-12 squirrels come to my back yard. This feeder has them so frustrated, i love it!!! they chew at it, but because it is metal, they cannot get to the food. The have learned to keep their weight on the shepards pole that it is hanging from (it is weight that makes the doors close), but I put crisco on the pole, and they slide right off. It is very entertaining! I am buying alot less bird seed now that the squirrels are foiled!
Review RateAmazon Review, Nice FeederIt really does keep the squirrels at bay which is quite an accomplishment . The birds don't seem as enthralled with this feeder however , that is why the 4 star instead of 5 star rating. Overall, I would recommend this feeder.
Review RateAmazon Review, Answer to my prayers!Although the feeder needed to be somewhat reassembled it was not a big deal, I would assume this was for shipping purposes. It would have been helpful to have a few more instructions. I get quite laugh as I watch the squirrels try to figure out how to get into this feeder. The birds seem to like it just fine. We have saved a lot of $$ on sunflower seed and the mess under the feeders. I loved it so much I ordered 3.
