Do NOT recommend - I bought 2 of these on Amazon and both of the bottoms have horrible rust now. I'm so disappointed in this product. They are lovely glass feeders but now I can't use them. They are past their Amazon return date. Tried to clean them up and sprayed clear coat on them but I'm afraudvi may be doing more harm than good with the chemicals. Please make a plastic replacement bottom for them

Rust does form on the inside bottom but I’m going clear the rust and spray paint Rustolium so it doesn’t come back. After it cures, it’s ready for next year.

Rust protection coating finish not applied in center of saucer. This causes the sugar water to turn brown from rust.
Too bad because it looks good and metal bottom seals well against jar for no leaks.

Bought this feeder two months ago and, like others have commented, the metal base is rusting, making the nectar toxic. Love the looks and design otherwise. Wish Perky Pet would make a replacement plastic base to correct the issue for your customers. Would highly discourage purchasing this feeder.

Began rusting after first year and I'm no longer able to use it after two seasons. Pretty and easy cleaning, but short lived. Toxic to birds!!

This metal base rusts!

This metal base rusts! NOT durable! I was happy to find a wide mouth jar for easy cleaning....but now after 1 season it is not usable due to the multiple rusted areas within the base.
I would not recommend.

I would not recommend. At the base of the feeder, where 3 metal feet are “joined” there is a small ball bearing. Dead center. Steady leak. Lost an entire jar of nectar. When I called customer service, they couldn’t justify why. I thought it might be a faulty base. But it happened on all 3 of my jar. Never again. I just hoped the metal feeder would keep the squirrels from chewing the plastic.

Metal base is a bad idea. Started to rust and contaminates the nectar. Is there a plastic replacement base assembly available?

Do not buy it or others made like it!

Not worth the purchase and harmful to the birds.
Cute, at first. Once these color sprayed glass, galvanized steel hummingbird feeders are washed, hang in the environment, they quickly lose their appeal.
Rust, tiny flecks of paint from the glass, make this as a bad as adding food coloring to the water.

The best feeders

The easiest feeders I own. I just ordered two more of this style to replace a jar that broke. Super easy to clean with a bottle brush. I never get mold in the base like with the plastic base type. I also am a big believer in the perch so the hummers can land while they feed. Bases don’t leak or drip once turned upright. Tip: when ready to turn jar over do it very quickly and you won’t get drips. I do it outside so if a drip happens it’s not a problem. I currently have 3 feeders and about 40 hummers so all three get filled daily. Gotta love these entertaining birds.
