Review Rate Works better than the $30 ones of similar design!I bought this feeder at Walmart after I returned a much more expensive one of similar design. This one works better! I have house finches, lesser goldfinches, and white crowned sparrows all visiting the feeder all day long. The seeds are down to the bottom ports by the end of the day. For those of you who are having trouble with this feeder, I recommend using Pennington wild finch mix and opening the ports. The seeds will pour out if you are not careful. I use a red funnel and pour them over a large terra-cotta pot I have positioned just under the feeder. Also, if you push down the seeds with your finger tip in each feeder port, they will be less likely to fall out. Nevertheless, by the end of the day, there will be a lot of spilt seeds in the pot. Just simply scoop them out and throw them away or vacuum them out. If you leave them over night, the rodents will eat them. I do not want rats, so I clean up every day at dusk. Be patient with this product. It takes birds a few days to a couple weeks to find a new feeder, so don't get discouraged if they do not show up right after you hang it.

Review Rate Fair product, but squirrels can ruin itA fair, cheap feeder, and the birds like it. You need to make sure the movable parts are in the right position or the seed falls straight out. Worst issue is with squirrels - they nibble away at the plastic ports, trying to get the seed out, and ruin them. My tube is still good (even though it gaps a little and is held tight by duck tape), but some of the ports are savaged. It would be great if I could buy spare ports, though a new feeder is not expensive. But once the ports are nibbled again, I'll be left with another useless tube.

Review Rate Total failureI gave this product a rating of 1 because of no choice to give it a zero. Drainage holes at bottom of feeder are too big and drain out thistle seeds at a ridiculous rate. Filled one the night before and by noon the next day it was over half emptied. I know it wasn't squirrels be because they can't get to it.

Review Rate Poor qualityBought this feeder yesterday at Walmart and put up with mixed seed in it. This morning a squirrel evidently climbed on it and the bail broke so it landed on the ground. Sides don't seem to be attached to each other either, maybe held together by the screw on cap. I guess you get what you pay for and this was a pretty cheap feeder.
Response From Perky-Pet®Kathryn : Consumer Relations RepresentativeThank you for sharing your feedback. To prevent squirrels from accessing feeders and causing damage, we recommend hanging them at least 4 ft off the ground and 8 ft away from launching points such as trees and fences. For more tips, please contact us directly at 855-737-5973, we're happy to help!

Review Rate Planned malfunctionAmazing that feeder makers never seem to learn what makes a good feeder. On the other hand, if they want to sell lots of feeders to people who don't know what actually works, their plan is working. Small openings well above the bottom of the feeder means the wet seed in the bottom stays there, molds, and spoils the rest of the seed. so people keep buying different feeders, looking for the one that works. Perky-Pet used to sell a simple, inexpensive feeder for Nijer seed that worked well. I can't find it any more. Now everyone is charging $40-$60 for feeders that don't work well. If you don't need to refill the feeder either the seed is spoiled or the birds cannot get it out of the feeder.
Response From Perky-Pet®Kathryn : Consumer Relations RepresentativeThank you for this feedback. We recommend feeders be cleaned regularly to remove unconsumed seed and prevent the spread of disease among the visitors to the feeder. We've shared your comments with our Product Managers. Please feel free to contact us at 855-737-5973 with any questions or for assistance.

Review Rate It falls apart; extreme bad qualityThe lids that are supposed to close and open, simply fall off, are hard to place back, and they fall out easily again. It is frustrating. One hour after trying to make it to work somehow, I got so frustrated that I put it in the trash can. It left me a sense of loss or of having been ripped off.
Response From Perky-Pet®Kathryn : Consumer Relations RepresentativeWe appreciate you taking the time to share this feedback and have given your comments to our Product Managers. All of our feeders are covered by a 30-day guarantee and a 1-year replacement policy. Please contact us directly at 855-737-5973 with any questions!

Review Rate AwesomeHello,
I have this feeder in green. It is more than 13yrs old. My sparrows love it. I cannot keep it filled. I live in Fort Myers, FL.
I had to move it as the squirrels were getting at it. I have had all perches filled and still others were fighting to get on. I love this feeder. I watch my birds from the kitchen window. Families feeding baby sparrows. It is such a delight.

Review Rate 1st time using this feederwe bought this feeder and we cant get the birds to eat out of of it not sure what were doing wrong any help and advice welcome. -
Review Rate Great for mixed seeds but there's a trick to it.This is a good inexpensive bird feeder. After a little trial and error (and some spilled mixed birdseed), I finally figured out that you have to tilt the port at an angle into a "hooded" position. This keeps the birdseed from flowing out but creates that little window for feeding. Clear instructions or a video showing this would have been very helpful. -
Review Rate Poor designTerrible feeder. The ports will not let the mixed seeds through unless they are open. The when open all the seeds fall out! I had one similar last year that did not have movable ports but tiny ledges to hold the seeds from falling out. I believe it was the same brand it was much better. This is junk. Guess I will fill it with finch food and keep ports closed. Poor design for sure.

Hanging Your Feeder
- Ideally a sheltered southeastern exposure location is best for hanging bird feeders since birds like to feed in the sun and out of the wind. Birds also prefer not to have any obstructions over their feeding area so they can see any predators. more»
