The metal piece that holds the feeding ports gets rusty. Great idea, bad selection of the materials. This is going in the trash.

The metal component that holds the feeding ports is designed with a protective coating to help prevent rusting over time. That said, if the coating is compromised or wears down, rust can occasionally develop, particularly in outdoor conditions.

Love the glass design but unfortunately the paint peeled off of the inside of metal base and then there was rusting. I tried to find a replacement bottom but to no avail.

As others have complained, I too are not happy with this product.
It's the bottom piece that rusts and paint peels, also noticed mold growing on the piece thats riveted to the base. I ran a paper towel under the part that has holes, and couldnt believe how nasty it was. I hope I didnt harm any humming birds.

I too had rusting parts by the end of the season. Very disappointed, and do wish the company could simply mail me a plastic replacement that could screw onto the red mason jar...or really I think just a plastic bottom may suffice. It's been easy to clean and my favorite feeder yet...to this point.

If I could give zero stars I would! The feeder piece that is metal is rusted out contaminating the water for the birds!!! Unacceptable.

I am totally disappointed in this and other PerkyPet hummingbird feeders. They RUST - poluting the nectar for the hungry birds.
Perky-Pet DOES NOT offer replacement parts! The feeders are garbage now. SAD!!

Bought this for the pretty red mason jar, but the metal part of the base rusts on the inside after a year of use, turning the nectar rusty and brown, even when cleaned and nectar changed every 2-3 days. Very disappointing. Looks like many others have had same problem. Wish there was a plastic replacement base for these so we didn’t all have to throw in the landfill after a year or less of use. My last feeder has lasted over 15 years. (Plastic base).

Love this feeder! My hummingbirds LOVE it and I keep it clean and filled with fresh homemade hummingbird water for them all season. I HIGHLY recommend for hummingbird enthusiasts who want a simple way to keep the birds coming back!

The base rusts which then impacts what you are feeding the birds. We've tried spray painting the base and yet after a day or two I can still see the sugar water have a rust colored tinge to it. Will never buy another.

Pretty to look at, but over time the "inside" of the bottom feeding part, where their tongues would reach into, rusts and becomes rough. No replacement available. Will only purchase plastic bottom feeders from now on.
