Review RateNot Squirrel Proof
I purchased this feeder at Walmart to supplement another squirrel proof feeder I purchased at lowe's. The one from Lowe's is far superior than the PerkyPet squirrel proof feeder. After hanging the feeder, I finally had birds feeding from it. Finches only, Cardinals, titmice and juncos ignored it and flew on. I did watch squirrels approach it and saw how frustrated they were in trying to get seed from the tube, eventually they attacked my suet feeders for a food source. unfortunately, the construction of the feeding tube leaves a lot to be desired for the same reasons everyone else has identified.. moldy seed, not easy to clean. This morning I watched a squirrel jump a short distance from the railing of my deck and landed on my feeder. The weight of the squirrel caused the lactching mechanism to fail and the only thing left hanging from the pole was the lid and wire holding it on the hook. The in trying to put it back together, I realized that there are four plastic grips that the lid snaps into place onto the tube. It didn't take much force to reattach it but when I tried to pull it apart, playing the part of the squirrel, the lid came off easily . In order to continue using it, i had to install metal pins through the lid into the tube barrel, rendering the squirrel proof cage from being used. Wouldn't buy another one or recommend this to anyone buying it.Response From Perky-Pet®Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative
Thank you for providing this feedback! We are very sorry for this experience and have shared these comments with our Product Manager for further review.
For the best results, it is important to hang the feeder at least 12 feet away from any squirrel launching points (deck, large bush, tree..etc) and four feet off the ground. Placement is key when deterring squirrel access, even when using a squirrel-resistant bird feeder.

Review RateI wouldn't buy this again.
I have two "squirrel-proof" feeders. The other one is far superior to this version. Why? Well, for one thing, ventilation. My other feeder has ventilation at the base of the feeder which keeps damp seed from clumping and getting moldy. So far, your version has ended up with clumped and moldy bird seed every time I've set it out. For another, cleanability. I can take the other feeder totally apart and put the pieces in the dishwasher if I want. This feeder is really hard to clean, especially below the lowest openings. Seeds get stuck between the column base and the clear seed holder; I can't get them out at all! The bar across the top makes it difficult to get a brush down inside. The squirrels haven't found a way inside this feeder--yet. Hopefully they won't. But there's a lot of things you can do to make this feeder better for the owners and the birds.
Review RateAttractive, but far from squirrel-proof.
1) This feeder is NOT all metal. The "frames" around the feeding ports are plastic, as is the transparent feed tube; and squirrels just love to chew on them. 2) While the weight-activated outer structure does frustrate squirrels, smaller seeds spill out of the ports and stick to the rim of the base, providing the little beasts with encouraging treats. 3) Damp or wet seed easily clogs the places where seed enters the feeding ports. Sure, this can be fixed by cleaning, but with the loss of expensive seed. 4) As the seed level lowers, the upper ports do not receive seed, while the lower ones clog (see 3). Although this feeder is attractive and in my experience birds have no trouble finding it and feeding from it, squirrels do the same -- no matter how high it hangs.Response From Perky-Pet®Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RatePiece of trash
I sure wish I'd researched this first. Its going back to the store tomorrow. A. There are no instructions on how to open to put seed inside and B. Now that I read there is no way to take it apart to clean it is a health risk to the birds. Clean it every two weeks? By soaking it in warm soapy water? Obviously you guys don't use the products you sell or your design would be efficient. This is far from it.Response From Perky-Pet®Elizabeth : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RatePoor design
The lid is terrible. The upper ring under the lod should ne metal or a pin should be used to keep the lid on. Squirrels destroyed my feeder. Way beyond 30 days. I modified the other one and it is indeed squirrel proof. When designing a squirrel resistant feeder, one must be smarter than the squirrel.Response From Perky-Pet®Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative

Placement of the feeder is very important when deterring squirrels. Please keep in mind squirrels can jump, so the feeder should be placed at least 12 feet away from a launching point and four feet off the ground.

Review RateNo way to disassemble this to clean it???
Not a bad feeder, have had no problems with birds coming to it nor have I had issues with squirrels figuring out how to get into it. My issue is the fact that you cannot disassemble this feeder to clean it. What kind of nonsense is that? This feeder is caked with seed on the bottom and would need an ice pick to dislodge it. Wouldn’t it have been better to design it to allow it to be taken apart? Truthfully, I would not have purchased it if I’d known that ahead of time.
Review RatePerches are too small and hard for birds to see
It even took the titmouse a day to figure this bird feeder out. It looks like the perches can not be seen by the birds. I have watched them fly to it, hover around it and fly off and only very small birds can fit on it if they do finally figure it out. Cardinals are not using it. Disappointed, I will be returning it.Response From Perky-Pet®Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative
This feeder is best used for chickadees, finches, nuthatches and titmice. Since birds are creatures of habit, it may take some time for them to adapt to a new feeder in their environment. Placing a shiny pie plate filled with bird seed under the feeder will help attract them.
The feeder is covered by a 30 day return policy. If you would like to proceed with that option, please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973).
Review RateWorks well if you put something over the lid preventing it being opened by squirrels.
This works great with one big exception. The lid. It took less than a month for our squirrels to figure out how to open it and then they chewed through the inner ring holding it together. Rendering it useless. However we have purchased another one only this time have put a large metal disc over the top. It acts as an umbrella for the birds but it keeps the squirrels from getting the lid open as well. Now it works great. So something for your design team to think about.
Review RateNot a good buy!!!!
This rating is for the feeder, and for the customer service. First off we have this Perky Pet feeder replacing a old ratty rusted feeder that the birds loved but we felt it looked bad. This new feeder does not attract birds. We tried different things, but still not success. We called the company and they asked three questions, said they can't do anything because it is over the 30 Day period, period. Not very friendly, nor helpful.Response From Perky-Pet®Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative
Birds are creatures of habit and can take time to try a new food source. We recommend placing a fresh water source near the new bird feeder. Also, placing a shiny pie plate filled with bird seed under the feeder works well to entice the birds to the new feeder.

Review RateGood design!
The lid turns too easy. I installed a 1/2" copper pipe on top of the lid. So far I am happy with this squirrel be gone feeder.

Wild Bird Feeders - FAQs
Q: Where should I hang this feeder to keep squirrels away?
A: Squirrels are great jumpers, so hang any bird feeder at least 12 feet away from an "launch pad" and at least four feet from the ground. They're also well known for their ability to climb, so try hanging it off a smooth metal pole that doesn't provide them with footholds.
Q: How do I clean my bird feeder?
A: All bird feeders should be cleaned once every two weeks. The Squirrel-Be-Gone® Cylinder is relatively easy to clean.
First, unscrew the top cap and remove the bottom plug, and then empty any remaining seeds or debris. Next, rinse the cap, plug and seed reservoir and scrub with a mild soap-and-water solution. Use a soapy rag to wipe down the wire cage. Finally, rinse any remaining soap, reassemble and allow it to drip-dry before refilling with seed.
Q: I have more questions about squirrel-proofing my feeders, who should I contact?
A: First, look through the pages in our Squirrels 101 feature, which offers plenty of tips on keeping squirrels off your bird feeders. If you still have questions, you can contact us on Facebook or call our customer relations team at at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973).
