This worked well but within 10 minutes the squirrels figured out how to lift the top lid off. If they tried to enter from the top they could get stuck. Don't want to harm them. I solved the issue by cutting a 1" diameter piece of PVC the length of the hanging cable and slipping the cable through before hanging it. I first tried a less dense plastic and they managed to remove it.Response From Perky-Pet®Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative
We apologize for this experience. To repel squirrels, we recommend placing the feeder at least 10 feet away from launching spots, such as trees or decks, and at least five feet above the ground. Adding cayenne pepper to the seed also works well as it will not affect the birds (since they have no sense of smell or taste) but will repel the squirrels.

Wild Bird Feeders - FAQs
Q: Where should I hang this feeder to keep squirrels away?
A: Squirrels are great jumpers, so hang any bird feeder at least 12 feet away from an "launch pad" and at least four feet from the ground. They're also well known for their ability to climb, so try hanging it off a smooth metal pole that doesn't provide them with footholds.
Q: How do I clean my bird feeder?
A: All bird feeders should be cleaned once every two weeks. The Squirrel-Be-Gone® Cylinder is relatively easy to clean.
First, unscrew the top cap and remove the bottom plug, and then empty any remaining seeds or debris. Next, rinse the cap, plug and seed reservoir and scrub with a mild soap-and-water solution. Use a soapy rag to wipe down the wire cage. Finally, rinse any remaining soap, reassemble and allow it to drip-dry before refilling with seed.
Q: I have more questions about squirrel-proofing my feeders, who should I contact?
A: First, look through the pages in our Squirrels 101 feature, which offers plenty of tips on keeping squirrels off your bird feeders. If you still have questions, you can contact us on Facebook or call our customer relations team at at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973).
