Sooooo, I purchased this item and it’s not squirrel proof as advertised. Your company should ensure the directions for making it squirrel proof are in large print.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. The Perky-Pet® Squirrel-Be-Gone® II Home Style Wild Bird Feeder is designed to help deter squirrels by using the weight-activated perch system. For best results, the spring tension should be adjusted based on the size of the birds you want to feed. If the setting is too loose, squirrels may still be able to access the seed. Adjusting the spring so that it closes the feeding ports under a squirrel's weight while remaining open for birds can improve performance. We appreciate your comments regarding the instructions and will share your feedback with our team.
Great For Squirrels.

Great For Squirrels. The birds like it if they can get to it. This feeder presented no problem for our squirrels. Now I have a $50 squirrel feeder.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Perky-Pet® Squirrel-Be-Gone II Home Style Wild Bird Feeder. We’re sorry to hear squirrels are still accessing the feeder. For best results, it should be hung at least 5 feet off the ground and 8–10 feet away from jump points like trees, roofs, or railings. Using a squirrel baffle below the feeder and making sure it hangs freely can also help activate the weight-sensitive features properly.
This is our 2nd purchase ... but FAIL! Can’t find 3/4” mounting pole anywhere.

This is our 2nd purchase of this exact Perkypet birdfeeder. Last one lasted over 10+ years until it started rusting. We loved it so much for its durability that we just ordered a 2nd one. The company does not include 3/4” diameter poles like it used to in the past. I also called Customer Service & they dont carry them as an Accessory. I loved having this birdhouse on a pole vs hanging on a tree or Shepherds hook because squirrels couldnt get to it on a straight pole. When hanging feeder on a branch or Shepherds hook, a squirrel can literally hang upside down & feed out of the feeder tray!
I cannot find a 3/4” diameter pole anywhere online or in local big box stores. Appears standard diameter for birdhouse boxes is 1”.

Thank you for your review of the Perky-Pet® Squirrel-Be-Gone II Home Style Wild Bird Feeder. We’re glad the previous feeder lasted so long, and we appreciate your feedback about the 3/4″ pole not being included or available as an accessory. While we no longer offer that size pole, many customers use a standard 1″ pole with a squirrel baffle below the feeder to help deter climbing. We’ll share your input with the team for future product planning.
Durable and long lasting

I have had this feeder for 5 years. It has greatly reduced the number of squirrels but not completely. The cardinals and gold finch’s love it. The hopper holds a good amount of seed. I use sunflower chips. The squirrel only can eat a little because of tight slot. Doesn’t have to be filled to often
country living

I recently moved, fulltime, into my once-vacation home - and couldn't wait to start feeding the birds. I lived in-town for almost 4 decades and have been feeding the 'city birds' for decades but couldn't wait to start to see some of the more-wild type. :-) I would say it took the local birds about 2-3 days to get brave enough to take a chance with this feeder - so I also put a tube feeder out nearby (which they took to immediately), before they realized that the Perky-Pet feeder was actually easier to get the seeds from. I have decided to keep the tube feeder up as well - for the squirrels. I have seen that although they can't get the seeds from the Perky-Pet one, that doesn't stop them from trying. With a more easier fare close by, I'm hoping that will reduce their attempts at the Perky-Pet. I have already seen that the raccoons found out about it very quickly as well and tried to destroy it. Working with Perky-Pet for assistance to repair it was awesome!! Great folks! I learned I have to take my feeders in at dusk to prevent the raccoons (and, potentially, bears) from taking advantage of any delay. But that's what country life is about! But this feeder is great! Not only is it very attractive and handles a lot of seed (although I don't put much in because I need to bring it in every night), but it is extremely well made and very sturdy. Even when the raccoon ripped it off its hanger and it dropped 10', only one small part was broken. Definitely will be getting more! It is so beautiful!
I love this feeder.

I love this feeder. I have had it up for months, refill it twice a week. I have it hanging from a shepherd's hook. Just went out to refill it and . . . a MOUSE was inside! I'd say been in there some time, as it was sluggish. Plenty of food but no water. Had to set the feeder on the ground, tip it, and bang the bottom to get the mouse to run out. Now I wonder how to keep the mouse out in future. This feeder is great at keeping the squirrels out, now I have to cope with a mouse?! Always something.
Great feeder, especially if you ...

Great feeder, especially if you want a feeder that holds a lot of seed. I know most people are looking at this feeder because they want to keep squirrels off their seed. In my case I bought this feeder because I liked how it looked in my yard, and I like that birds can only eat from one side of it (which makes it easier for me to see the birds). Quality is very good, feeder is easy to use and clean and the birds like it. To see birds using this feeder check out youtube.com/@BirdJumble
Disappointed

Purchased this feeder last summer and had no luck attracting any birds to it and I had to throw away the bird seed. This summer I put black sunflower seeds in it and have only attracted squirrels. They have figured out how to get the roof off it. Thought maybe it was my error they got it off the first time, nope they had it off again within an hour. I’d return it if I could.

Keep in mind squirrels can JUMP! Ideal placement would be at least 12 feet away from any type of launch pad (tree, fence…) and at least 4 feet off the ground. Another easy tip is to add some cayenne pepper to the seed – squirrels hate it, but it doesn’t bother the birds at all. Great for feeding squirrels not so great for birds.

Only took 5 days for my squirrels to rip.through the plastic front of this feeder and literally go inside to eat sunflower seeds all day! Horrible design flaw to have flimsy plastic covering openings. So now, the feeder is basically useless for feeding birds! Only feeding squirrels.

Oh no, we are so sorry to hear about this! Try and hang your feeder at least twelve feet from any tree trunk or limb and at least four feet up from the ground. This will prevent squirrels from either jumping from the tree or up from the ground onto the feeder. The feeder is covered under a 30-day return policy and a 1-year replacement policy. To proceed, please give us a call at 1-855-737-5973. We're happy to help!
Sincerely, Rachel
This feeder works

I bought this feed a year ago and mounted it on a tall pole. The squirrels went up the pole and pulled the lever down when they reached the feeder, foiling their attempt to feed every time. The eventually gave up and leave it alone now. It works! Has held up well to the weather, too.
