Perky-Pet® Squirrel-Be-Gone® Wild Bird Feeder

These are our favorite birdfeeders and we have used them for over 25 years. We get a lot of yellow finches and they’re absolutely adorable. The squirrels in our area gave up on our feeders a long time ago and that’s important because we buy the no waste bird food and it’s so expensive.

Bought this after squirrels chewed out the FlexPorts on my Squirrel-Be-Gone® Max. This feeder is okay but squirrels seem to be able to get into it more easily. Eventually there were enough of them hanging off the cage to snap the wire it hangs from. Dumbfounded why Perky-Pet doesn't sell replacement ports.

They no longer support the lifetime warranty for Droll Yankee products. They only give a 2 year limited warranty for squirrel damage. Without a warranty you would be better off buying a much cheaper product

So annoyed by this feeder. The squirrels have just laughed at me as they PULL OUT THE PLASTIC PORTS and all the seed dumps to the ground. I can’t put the plastic stopper back in because of the cage. Another giant waste of money.

I’m writing this after the second one of these has broken. The first one broke somehow that it would no longer close and the second one broke so that the bottom can’t be put back on. When they work they’re great but they don’t last it seems

Feeder was great until... Squirrel jumped on it and it fell on the ground. There is a spring that attaches the body to the lid that flew off and I cannot find it. This is the second one this has happened to and no where on the site can you get replacement springs. As this appears to be an issue the feeder should come with extra springs.

Don't know why others have complained about small perches. I fill the feeder with sunflower seeds and it is emptied in a few days with all the birds that visit. Sparrows, Finches, Blackbirds, Cardinals, Grackles all seem to have no problem. Squirrels try but soon give up. Good feeder.

Poor quality. Perches are too small for birds and they will NOT visit this feeder. Perky Pet customer service offered no solutions or help when contacted. A WASTE of money!

I love this feeder! I have had several of them the past ~30 years. They are sturdy, definitely squirrel-defying, and the six feeder ports are always full of birds jockeying for position. When the springs on an old one rusted out, they were easy to replace. I like that the tension is adjustable for the desired resistance for larger/smaller birds. I like the "rustic" leaves on the outside, they have never rusted and look natural, not garish, hanging from my tree. The perches are a perfect distance for the many birds (Oak Titmouse, Chickadee, several kinds of finches, etc.) that enjoy the hulled sunflower chips. (Other feeder types are appropriate for larger birds.) The metal cage is stiff and strong, and I have never had a squirrel chew through or bend it. Yes, the plastic yellows over time, but it doesn't bother the birds. I'm more concerned about birds ingesting microplastics at it ages. A higher quality UV-stabilized polycarbonate would be better but pricier. For me, the only other drawback to this feeder is that cleaning the inside thoroughly can be difficult. Recommend you do it early and often, and use a good brush. When the seeds got wet and mold developed, I had to remove the bottom so I could properly scrub it out. I was able to replace it, but used heavy-duty tape to keep it in place. So far so good after several years. I purchased on for a friend recently and noticed that the way the base is connected has changed slightly, and springs were mounted differently and lighter weight that the old ones so may not last as long. Time will tell...

This feeder was a major disappointment. Even the smallest birds cannot land on the shaky small perches. we have tried it for days and very little bird seeds were eaten. We will look on your website to hopefully purchase another feeder. This current one is a waste of money.
