What are the most popular bird seeds to use?
Question by: Kathryn Tator on Oct 23, 2020, 12:10 PM
Black Oil Sunflower Seed is the most popular bird seed. It is much smaller than the traditional sunflower seed. It is best for those birds with smaller bills, such as the sparrow, junco and goldfinch.

How do I prevent seeds from sprouting under my feeder?
Question by: Kathryn Tator on Oct 23, 2020, 12:13 PM
You will need to sterilize your seed to prevent it from germinating. This will not alter the attractiveness or the nutritional value of the seed in any way. Some store-bought seed will already be sterilized and will often state this on the packaging.

I think the cardinals are having trouble with this feeder. It looks like when a cardinal is on the perch the bird’s body blocks the port. Can you confirm that the feeder is not designed for birds larger than sparrows and finches?
Question by: Bill Akerley on Jan 29, 2022, 10:01 AM
This feeder is best used for chickadees, finches, nuthatches, titmice, and other similarly sized birds.

Does this have the fixed perches, as shown in the photos, or does it have the type that "flips" up and down, which appear to be much thinner wire?
Question by: Chris on Dec 4, 2024, 3:13 PM
Thank you for your interest in our Squirrel Be Gone feeder! This innovative design features a weight-activated mechanism that keeps squirrels away while allowing birds to enjoy the seeds. The feeder's perches respond to the weight of the animals landing on them. When a bird, typically light in weight, lands on the perch, the seed compartments open. However, when a heavier animal like a squirrel lands, the extra weight triggers shutters or covers to close off the seed ports, preventing the squirrel from accessing the food without affecting the birds.

We hope this helps! Let us know if you have any more questions.

Question by: Noreen Shannon on Dec 21, 2024, 12:31 PM
Hi,

Thank you for reaching out to Perky-Pet!

I’d be happy to share the instructions for filling and maintaining your Perky-Pet® Squirrel-Be-Gone® Wild Bird Feeder:

Filling Instructions:
Press down on the outer cage and lift up the lid.
Fill the feeder with your desired seed.
Slide the lid back over the seed tube.
Disassembly and Cleaning Instructions:
Remove the lid.
Clean the feeder with a mild soap and water solution.
Adjusting the Spring Action:
To increase the weight required to activate the system, hook the spring wire into one of the lower holes.
Important: To ensure proper functionality, all springs should be adjusted to the same setting.
Tip: Adjust the springs in single increments each time until you notice squirrels are no longer able to feed from the feeder.
I hope this information is helpful! If you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out.

Warm regards
