Perky-Pet® Carriage Bird Feeder

I read a lot about this brand and model. Its cheap and easy to use. However, when i placed seeds even with slight winds the seeds all slowly fell off and in no time the feeder was empty and seeds all on ground. Am I doing wrong?

Great feeder for all type birds and when hung makes it squirrel resistant. Last one lasted almost 4 years and was easy to open and place food in feeder. Hung it from a tree branch about 5 feet off the ground so lots of birds were able to sit; eat; and throw some feed to the ground where other birds and doves ate. Also, due to its compact size (enough for a morning feed); it is able to be placed where hawks can not get to the feeding birds. I recommend this feeder and price is right at PETCO.

I've been bird feedling for many years,,and have had the gamut of feeders,,,and this is by far the best feeder I have ever used,,,,I have 8 of these feeders in my shed,,,,and have 4 set up in the backyard,,,The single most thing I love about this feeder is,,its simple to keep clean,,,,and the perch the birds sit on does not collect water when it rains,,,the seeds inside the feeder stay dry,,,other feeders collect water and the seeds need to be replaced,,,anyway this is the only feeder I use now,,,,got rid of all the other feeders. I purchased my feeders at Rural King,,,in Fremont Ohio,,,,,I will start purchasing directly from you folks in the future. Ted M

I have one now, but dropped it and the perches cracked. So went to get a new one just like it. Found the same model, but could not twist the top off Tried several of the same model--no luck. Even had salesman try --no success.

I picked one of these up at Home Depot. It's been up for three weeks, and the cardinals, mockingbirds and chickadees love it. I keep it filled with sunflower seeds, but I've noticed a problem. When the seed level gets low, the bird's weight becomes significant. The feeder tips dumping the remaining seeds. I solved the problem by attaching a chunk of metal to the bottom of the feeder to serve as ballast. I wish Perky-Pet would incorporate this feature. I don't think it would add much to the cost of the unit.

I have bought alot of bird feeders and this is by far the best one that I have every bought. I have never bought one of the electrical feeders that spin the squirrels right off, but I have bought more than one squirrel proof bird feeder that did not last long. This one will feed the squirrels, but they need food too. They just have to work at it more than many of the other bird feeders that all they have to do is push the top up. This one the top is fixed on and they have to eat them one at a time. My big problem with this feeder is that the racoons like to remove this feeder from the stand. I recently lost one and found it later hidden in some shrubs where the racoons thought the feeder would re-fill itself on its own. This feeder is so inexpensive, that I did not mind replacing it once per year.

This bird feeder does the job and requires no maint. & will clean easy if needed.

It's less than six bucks. so if you decide bird feeding isn't for you no big loss. the first day i set it up was windy and it fell to the floor, no cracks good as new, within one hour of placing seeds and setting up a cardinal and other birds were eating. It's small so you don't have to waste your ten pound bag of bird seeds in one try, all in all it's a great way to get started in bird feeding.

Lightweight so you can use it on smaller branches -- like on that Rose of Sharon outside the kitchen. A bit cumbersome to remove the lid while holding a scoop of sunflower seeds (the lid is held by tabs that twist together) but all in all a nice feeder.
