Perkey Pet has screwed up the port design of this variety. Fortunately I found a way.

I've used the taller 6 port version of this feeder for years. Finally they gave out and imagine my surprise when I found that they seemingly were not available now. The current 4 port version seemed to be pretty much identical so I bought a couple. They are NOT the same. The ports have been changed in such a way that they come out and end up on the ground...with what used to be the seeds! I reassembled a couple of times, but finding the port covers on the ground got to be a horror.
I use two feeders. On configured for small seeds and one for larger mixed seed. Neither setting is reliable...well both are reliable in terms of reliably popping out and dumping seed.
I have found a solution, however. I use hardware store glue of the Duco variety to cement the port covers in place. It took me a couple of trials get get it right. (I had no luck with an "Extreme Conditions" glue. It cured nicely but peeled off. Epoxy didn't do well either.
The household cement has been holding nicely for the better part of a week.
So ultimately I solved my own problem...one that Perky Pet should have spotted before foisting these on an unsuspecting public. I'm okay now. I'll be able to deal with any issues that may come up.
By the way, I'm in southern Arizona. Very heavy on house sparrows, lots of flickers, small wrens, cactus wrens, curve bill thrashers, cardinals, etc. No squirrels.
A piece of junk ... purchased this afternoon from Lens Mill Cambridge Ontario. Filled it up plus adjusted the flaps for Nyjer and wild bird feed. Four hours later the bird feeder was broken and perches totally broken off by squirrels.
A total waste of money and will not purchase a Perky Pet product ever again
The size is perfect for my needs but the birds don't seem to care for it. I had to replace my feeder because squirrels chewed the openings to get to the sunflower seeds. I bought a baffle for under the feeders. I then had to buy shorter feeders. The kind I like are hard to find in a short version. I thought this was it but I'm not seeing any action. I don't think they like the perches. Wasted my money on this one.
Will the navy 2-in-1 wild bird feeder, with the opening ports, accommodate unshelled sunflower seed?

Thank you for contacting Perky-Pet®.
I’d be happy to assist you with your question regarding the Perky-Pet® Navy 2-in-1 Tube Bird Feeder.
This feeder is designed to accommodate sunflower seed, mixed seed, and Nyjer/thistle seed. You may also try using unshelled sunflower seeds, but if the feeder does not hold them properly, we highly recommend using regular sunflower seeds for the best results.
If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out.
Warm regards

I just purchased four red 2-in-1 feeders. It has flippable ports. One position is for finch type food and the other when open for mixed food. I feed mixed foods, thus the flapper has to be in the completely open position. I try to put these flappers in the open position and most of the four feeders I purchased they don't stay open but flip back to the finch/thistle position all the time. It looks like the little dimple of plastic to keep them open is too small and will not keep the flapper open. I am very disappointed and now have four of your feeders that are almost "useless" as the flapper will not stay open, but flips to the closed thistle position. I purchased them at a Bi-Mart store in East Wenatchee, WA. CAN YOU HELP??? Bob
