Good Product/Design flawed By Ronald

This style feeder was mounted in my backyard when I bought my house. It's next to a screen of cedar trees. Began filling it, and both birds and squirrels arrived. Birds (Jays/Grackles) or squirrels chewed out plastic inserts allowing all seed to run out. Good for squirrels, expensive for me. Contacted the original company (prior to Perky Pet takeover?) and was told they offered replacement baffles, but were out of stock. When I didn't here from them, researched and discovered Perky-Pet was now the owner. Contacted Perky-Pet, and was politely told that there were no replacement inserts. Ordered a new feeder, basically for replacement inserts. Squirrels (despite cayenne pepper) and birds have chewed through the replacements. I am willing to purchase replacement inserts if Perky-Pet will read their customer comments and stock them. Otherwise, don't buy this product if you have squirrels or large birds (Jays).

This feeder needs to be sturdier. By Judy

I really like this feeder but they don't last as long as other ones do. The bigger birds are really good at destroying the plastic tubes and pulling out the metal perches. I find that I have to buy a new one every two years.

Not Happy By TIMOTHY

The bottom tray on the bird feeder will not stay in place. The fasteners are flimsy and do not secure the tray. I have pitched the feeder and moved on the something else.

Poor Quality Copper Finish Triple Tube Feeder By Cliffy

Liked the size of the feeder and the amount of food that it holds. As much as it is advertised as squirrel proof, it is not. Then squirrels get onto the base of the feeder and pull out the cheap plastic inserts at the feeder holes and then the birdseed all falls out to the ground. This happened in less than a month. Very expensive feeder that is useless after a month's use.

Hello,

We are very sorry to hear of this experience! To keep squirrels off the feeder, we recommend hanging it at least 12 feet away from any squirrel launching pad (such as a tree, fence, deck, etc) and four feet off the ground. Mixing some cayenne pepper in with the bird seed also works well to deter squirrels as they can't stand the taste but it will not bother the birds at all.

Our Consumer Relations Team is happy to provide additional assistance. Please feel free to contact us at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973).

Can you please reply By Don

This a great feeder, but the flip valves fall out when they are set for seed and the seed runs out on the ground Maybe you could replace them. Donald Nice 39850CALLE BREVE TEMECULA. Ca

We apologize for this experience. The ports will snap right into place. If a slight "snap" was not heard, they may not be installed correctly. In the same way, when the ports are adjusted to dispense Nyjer seed or mixed and sunflower seed, a slight "snap" will be heard, letting you know they are adjusted correctly.

Please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973) with any questions or for additional assistance.

Poor base engineering By S

They re-engineered the base from the last time I ordered and now the base did not clip in on 2 of 6 feeders. Had to use liquid nails adhesive to get it to stay and who knows how long that will last

Response From Perky-Pet®

We apologize for this experience. To install the tray, line up the three tubes over the tray and push down until they lock.

Love this product, as do the birds. By K.H.

This is the third feeder we have had in over 20 years. It is attractive and easy to convert to be used as a pole mounted feeder. (We use a pvc pipe to keep the squirrels away from the seed.) Shipping time was FAST!! Love this product, as do the birds. K. H. Cedar Hill, MO

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What are the most popular bird seeds to use?

A: Black Oil Sunflower Seed is the most popular bird seed. It is much smaller than the traditional sunflower seed and best for those birds with smaller bills, such as the sparrow, junco and goldfinch. This seed is accepted by the greatest variety of birds.

Mixed Seed is also popular. It is best to buy the mixes that contain white proso millet, a tiny cream colored seed with a shiny shell. Mixes containing finely cracked corn and black oil sunflower are also preferred by a large number of birds.

Niger (Thistle Seed) is imported from Africa and Asia. Niger won't germinate, but it does have a tendency to become moldy due to lack of air circulation. If you notice mold on the seed, it must be removed from the feeder and the feeder must be cleaned thoroughly.

Q: How do I clean my bird feeders?

A: Before filling your feeder with fresh seed, it is recommended that the following precautions are taken:

  1. Remove all old seed.
  2. Soak feeder in water.
  3. Scrub feeder and allow to air dry.
  4. Rake and remove accumulated hulls and droppings from underneath the feeders.
  5. Spread mulch (bark or wood) under the feeder, replace mulch when soiled.
  6. Thoroughly wash hands after handling and cleaning feeders.

Q: What is the importance of providing water for wild birds?

A: Wild birds need fresh, clean water just as much as they need seed. Birds stay healthy by using water not just for drinking, but also for bathing, cleaning their feathers and to remove parasites. Waterers are better options than bird baths because they provide birds with fresh, clean water that prevents dirt and debris from contaminating it. In hotter climates or seasons, providing water for birds makes it easy for them to have access to a water source and retain their energy. By adding a water source, you also can attract a larger variety of birds to your yard. You may even attract more colorful birds that don't eat seed, but are in need of water!
