Does the bottom of the red base come off to clean better on the tear drop model
Question by: Dave on May 10, 2025, 9:11 PM
Thank you very much for contacting us.

Yes, on the Teardrop model, the bottom red base unscrews easily from the feeder for quick cleaning and filling. This design helps ensure easy maintenance and allows thorough cleaning to keep the feeder in great condition.

It would be our pleasure to assist you if you have any further questions.

My Perky Pet Dew Drop hummingbird feeder came with a long skinny red straw inside.. What is it for?

The long red piece is the hanging wire/cord for the feeder. It’s used to attach through the hole at the top so you can hang the feeder from a hook, branch, or hanger.

It’s not part of the feeding system, just an accessory to make hanging easier.

Looking at the base of this feeder, I find that it will be quite difficult to clean. I am wondering if the base itself comes apart does the bottom of the base come off? Or do you have any suggestions on how to clean the inside of the base. I would also like to know if the yellow flowers can be removed again to clean any possible mold that could form inside.

Hi, thank you for reaching out.

The Perky-Pet® Dew Drop Plastic Hummingbird Feeder's design allows the bottle (reservoir) to be unscrewed from the red base for cleaning and refilling. However, the base itself does not fully come apart, and the bottom portion is not removable.

The yellow flower ports are fixed in place and are not designed to be removed.

For cleaning the base, we recommend using warm water with mild dish soap along with a small bottle brush or straw brush to reach inside. For deeper cleaning, especially if there is any mold, you can use a solution of 1-part white vinegar to 4 parts of water, or a very dilute bleach solution. Be sure to rinse thoroughly and allow all parts to dry completely before refilling.
