I bought 2 feeders 4-5 years ago & I LOVE it!! You MUST select a spot where squirrels can’t drop down from a higher tree branch or climb up from the ground. I dug a hole, filled it w/cement, put a 4”x4”x10’ square fence post down in the cement, surrounded the post w/HVAC aluminum venting, the squirrels/raccoons can’t get a grip. At the top of the post, I drilled a hole, inserted a metal bar (making a “T”) & hung several feeders from that bar. This feeder is great. They love it! I have about 10-12 species of birds visit my back yard. Our neighborhood is heavily wooded, so we have lots of breeds of birds you don’t usually see like Woodpeckers, Cedar Waxwings, Eastern Bluebirds, Goldfinches, tons of Cardinals, Bluejays, Robins. That’s just a partial list! You do need to tilt the feeder to encourage the Serbs to slide down toward the opening, but the birds can usually get at the seeds. I have noticed that rust has formed in different places on the feeder, but that’s to be expected. I love that it holds a LOT of seeds so I don’t have to get the ladder out to refill as often as I do for the other feeders. I highly recommend this feeder; but location, location, location is the key to keeping squirrels/raccoons away! I highly recommend this feeder.
Birds won’t eat from it

I purchased this feeder about 6 mo ago and have had no luck with birds eating from it It’s placed in an established area where I once had cardinals and other birds galore and now - nothing. Very disappointing.
Looks great!

Looks great! It's an adorable design. The adjustable weight perch helps keeps the heavy doves off and allow the lighter finch's to feast for a change. Squirrels will try to mess with it, but usually go to an easier snack spot. However one very determined squirrel was eventually able to pull off the roof, we lost the locking nut when that happened and aren't able to find a good replacement. But with a baffle it helps slow down the squirrels. Being metal it also lasts a lot longer in the weather and doesn't break if it falls.
Not squirrel proof.

Made well, but not squirrel proof by a long shot. Squirrels hang upside down from roof and feed away.

Your Red Squirrel-be-gone is not Squirrel Proof!
May 11, 2024
I bought your Red Squirrel-be-gone squirrel proof feeder, and it only took one day for my Grey Squirrels to find out how to make it non squirrel proof. They now get on the roof of the feeder, hang down to the feed opening without touching the bar that was designed to close the feed area when it gets a squirrel's weight on it. then, they grab a seed or two, and eat.
Also, my birds do not like this feeder very much, except for my House Finches.

Thank you for this feedback. If squirrels are managing to bypass the weight activated perch and climb on the roof, then the feeder should be hung or mounted in a different way. We recommend that it is 10-20 feet away from any launching point or area they could climb to reach the roof of the feeder. It should also be 6 feet from the ground. The feeder can be mounted on a single pole from the bottom to prevent squirrels from climbing up and over a shepherd's hook.

Have had for years and years. Absolutely love it. I just place pole far enough away from trees so squirrels can't jump to it. I'm sad I broke the lock nut for the cap of the roof a couple days ago. Other than that, super sturdy and easy to clean. Sounds like customers have had good luck with customer service so I'll give them a call next week.

Loved the feeder until I hung it up.The squirrels climb on the roof and the cardinal weather vane piece eventually rotates 90 degrees, then the squirrel forces their head under the roof and the roof falls off. At this point it’s a banquet of feed and they eat until their hearts desire! I suspect they’re napping afterwards.

We're sorry to hear about this experience! Make sure to lock the weather vane to prevent this from happening. Instructions on how to do this can be found under the "Resources" tab. Additionally, you may want to try and hang your feeder at least twelve feet from any tree trunk or limb and at least four feet up from the ground. This will prevent squirrels from either jumping from the tree or up from the ground onto the feeder.

I bought a feeder similar to this one from "Walmart, had your hang tags on it. Has a chimney that screws on the top of the roof, to hold the cover on. squirrels are always a problem for me. they did not get the way to get to the seed by hanging off roof, I had to blow a noisemaker, to get them down. now they do not bother with it, I have feeder in back yard with hood under feeder, that they cant get to it. Guess they now decided that they would go up one of the three pine trees, I have in back of my house, and eat the seeds that the chick a dee store under the bark. everybody is happy here. holds lots of seed, no need to shovel a trail with every snowfall, does get blown full of snow, which melts and blows off, I use a suet block container, and hang it to the side of handle, so they always have something to eat. so far I beat them.!

I got one of these wonderful bird feeders for Christmas and being in Northeast I did not open and inspect it until recently in April. there was a broken weather vane. I wrote to them to see if they would replace the piece not really expecting anything as it was a gift with no receipt. They not only responded within a couple of days, they sent a new one immediately!! What a pleasant surprise in this day and age of no customer service!!
Putting this lovely feeder up this weekend!!
