What are the most popular bird seeds to use?

Black Oil Sunflower Seed is the most popular bird seed. It is much smaller than the traditional sunflower seed. It is best for those birds with smaller bills, such as the sparrow, junco and goldfinch.

You will need to sterilize your seed to prevent it from germinating. This will not alter the attractiveness or the nutritional value of the seed in any way. Some store-bought seed will already be sterilized and will often state this on the packaging.

This feeder is recommended for small-to-medium sized birds. We do not have specific information as to whether cardinals will be able to feed.

Thank you for contacting us. Yes, it can. There is a 1.25” diameter hole at the bottom of the feeder and it is 2.75” deep for pole mounting.
