What are the most popular bird seeds to use?
Question by: Kathryn Tator on Oct 23, 2020, 12:10 PM
Black Oil Sunflower Seed is the most popular bird seed. It is much smaller than the traditional sunflower seed. It is best for those birds with smaller bills, such as the sparrow, junco and goldfinch.

How do I prevent seeds from sprouting under my feeder?
Question by: Kathryn Tator on Oct 23, 2020, 12:13 PM
You will need to sterilize your seed to prevent it from germinating. This will not alter the attractiveness or the nutritional value of the seed in any way. Some store-bought seed will already be sterilized and will often state this on the packaging.

I purchased a version of this "Country House" bird feeder from Rural King on 12-24-2024. Overall, it's the same design. However, the roof and cardinal latching mechanism are different. The cardinal freely pivots to rest horizontally on the roof, and I can't see any means by which it can be fixed in the vertical position and stand like a weathervane, as is the intention. Also, the roof latching mechanism lacks the stop tabs that are apparent in the video on this website, so it doesn't lock as securely. I'm guessing I've purchased some old stock of a since improved upon design. I'd appreciate any guidance or replacement parts that could make this birdhouse fully functional.
Thanks, Jon

One additional question that I forgot in the previous email. Is the small pole mounting bracket supposed to be included inside the birdhouse? I see that it is included in the video on this website, however my birdhouse did not have one included.
Thanks, Jon

I have a similar problem described below. The locking mechanism below the weather vane is not long enough to go into the hole provided to lock the top on.
Question by: Charles Kring on Mar 13, 2025, 12:25 PM
Thank you very much for reaching out to us. Please try pushing the weather vane down firmly to ensure the locking mechanism properly engages. If you have any further questions, feel free to call us at 855-737-5973. It would be our pleasure to assist you further.

The weather vane keeps falling down. How can I fix that? A cotter pin? What point should I move the lever on the left side to stop squirls?
Question by: Gay Tushingham on Mar 20, 2025, 6:03 PM
Thank you for contacting us with your question. If you have the new version, simply press down on the ceiling and adjust it into place. For the older version, it does not remain in a rigid position.
To adjust the sensitivity on the left side, lower the adjustment pin to increase tension, or raise it to a higher slot to decrease tension.

The perky-Pet Country Style feeder does not give any information on where to set the spring to keep out larger birds. Other brands give more information including the weight of different birds. This is really disappointing since it was very expensive. Please give the correct information for adjusting the spring. Thanks.
Question by: Katie keane on Mar 22, 2025, 4:22 PM
Thank you for contacting us with your question. To adjust the squirrel-resistant setting and increase the tension, simply lower the adjustment pin. If you wish to decrease the tension, raise the pin to a higher slot position.
