Should be called a squirrel feeder.
Also, one of the springs rusted out and the manufacturer doesn’t supply replacement parts?!

Thank you for sharing your experience with the More Birds® Squirrel-X X1 Squirrel-Resistant Bird Feeder. We’re sorry to hear about the issue with squirrels and the spring. This feeder is designed with weight-activated perches that close under heavier weight, so ensuring the spring and perch mechanism move freely can help maintain proper function. Keeping the feeder clean and dry between refills can also help reduce wear over time.
I love the feeder, but it's hard to clean
Aug 24, 2025
I love the feeder, and it has kept the squirrels away, but it is hard to clean. There are spots that are totally inaccessible with a brush or by trying to spray water up through the ports. I have ended up with clumps of seed where I can't get them out. I have soaked the feeders and gotten must of the gunk out, but I just don't feel like I can get them clean enough.
The squirrels have chewed the ports.

The squirrels have chewed the plastic on both bottom feed ports. Needless to say, the feeder is not squirrel proof. The bottom 2 ports need a metal plate so when the cover comes down, it covers the plastic. I like it as the larger birds, cardinals and grosbeaks can feed, mesh will not allow them in.

Squirrels had this thing figured out the minute it was hung. They are able to hang from the top and their weight does not even matter. We've had squirrels actually on the perches eating the seed. They chewed up the plastic parts of the ports so they could get seed out easier. Squirrels can even sit directly on the perches without a problem. To call this product squirrel proof is false advertising.

Pick it up at tractor supply
Kept the squirrels out but kept the birds out, too!

Kept the squirrels out. Unfortunately it kept the birds out, too! The birds would fly up to it and immediately fly away. They wouldn’t land on it. In three weeks of use, while my other feeders were emptied every few days, this feeder was untouched. Finally took it down and replaced it with a tube feeder and that was empty in three days, so location was not the problem. Moved this Squirrel X to another well used spot, and no birds touched it.
Total waste of 40 bucks.
Complete failure!!

Complete failure!! I bought one from Tractor Supply. I setup a trail camera to see what birds used it. The 2nd day it was up a squirrel sat directly on the weighted ports and pulled so much from the ports it spilled a large pile of food on the ground. It emptied one of the top chambers and the main chamber in one day.

I bought this feeder from Tractor Supply. I thought it looked great and quite possibly the squirrels would not figure it out. Within 1 week of setting it up the squirrels decimated the bird food I had filled this feeder with. True the Slammer part worked to deter them but the little beasts are smart and figured out how to hang with their hind feet from the top of the feeder (they only needed a toe hold) and they happily gorged themselves on the feed. I returned it to Tractor Supply and got my money refunded.

I was very happy with this feeder until it rained and I noticed that the bottom feeding ports get wet and the food gets clumpy and stuck in the feeder and its not the easiest feeder to clean.
