I bought this feeder from ...

I bought this feeder from Tractor Supply. I thought it looked great and quite possibly the squirrels would not figure it out. Within 1 week of setting it up the squirrels decimated the bird food I had filled this feeder with. True the Slammer part worked to deter them but the little beasts are smart and figured out how to hang with their hind feet from the top of the feeder (they only needed a toe hold) and they happily gorged themselves on the feed. I returned it to Tractor Supply and got my money refunded.

I was very happy with this feeder until it rained and I noticed that the bottom feeding ports get wet and the food gets clumpy and stuck in the feeder and its not the easiest feeder to clean.

Thank you for this feedback. We're sorry to hear about your experience with this feeder. These comments and concerns have been shared with our Product Manager. We recommend hanging it from a baffle to help prevent rain from getting in. It has a 30 day return period at the retailer.

this feeder was the best I ever had, however it hung off a support on our deck. and the red squirrel could hang over from that support and have a field day.. kept his back paws on the support and stretched over..but I still love it and am ordering another.
On my second one!! Worth it!

On my second one!!
I have one of these feeders in my back yard and the birds love it and the squirrels hate it. I like the wire it hangs from and the metal lid (squirrel chew marks and all). The wire is finally starting to fray so I bought another one when that one finally gives out ????.

Better cleaning directions needed

My only problem with the Squirrel X 1 its trying to clean it. The drain holes get clogged. Seeds can wet in a severe rain storm. I can use the hose on the feeder compartments but not the base. Need good disassembly directions!
squerrel x works great.

squerrel x works great. the gray squirels were taking over the feeder and now they cannot get in. works as described and I am saving alot of money on feed for the birds. the squirrels emptied the feeder every day. now I can go two weeks between fills.
Not effective bird feeder
Oct 2, 2022
Seed becomes wet easily and birds will not sit and eat at the feeder.
Difficult to keep clean and clean when seed gets wet and becomes moldy.
Will try one more time and if it doesn't work, out it goes to the junk.
Certainly not worth the money I paid for it.
Too Hard to Clean
Oct 2, 2022
The biggest complaint I have is the amount of disassembly and reassembly required, with 8 screws and 2 springs to take it apart for thorough cleaning. I like to clean my feeders every couple weeks and it's a real time consuming chore with this feeder. That's enough to keep me from ever buying another one, and the reason I didn't give this a higher star rating.
This feeder is good at being squirrel resistant, until they figure out how to hang upside down from the top. So, it needs a baffle above it. It has helped my seed last longer. The larger birds like starlings are just heavy enough to partially activate the spring to close the feeder ports about half way, preventing them from raiding all the seed.
The seed stays fairly dry and there are 3 compartments if you want to use different types of seed in each one. Larger seeds like peanuts may block the feeding ports once in awhile, but it works great with black oil sunflower and the waste free bird seed mix. It also holds a lot of seed so you're not having to refill it daily. The design looks nice and allows for viewing all the birds visiting at one time, which I really appreciate.
squirrels can still chew the plastic and ruin this feeder
Oct 2, 2022
At first, I really liked this feeder, but the squirrels figured out how to stand on the pole without closing the guard tight so they chewed the plastic and the seed leaks out now. My second complaint is about the wire hanger they use which the wires break and cut my hands when I carry the feeders to fill them. Actually, I live on a lake with a lot of wind and they swing in the wind so hard that one of the wires broke and the feeder was on the ground with my squirrels enjoying themselves on Christmas morning.
