I'm on the 3rd one ...

I'm on the 3rd one of these that I've owned over the last 12 years or so and I need another replacement. The biggest complaint I have is the plastic tube will crack where the screws hold it to the bottom metal base. It's not a great design. I added some small fiber washers to the screws to spread out the pressure a little from the screw heads on the plastic tube; don't know if that really helped much. But it does keep the squirrels and most larger birds (crows and similar sized birds) from getting the seed. I've had some large birds (Blue Jays and Red Belly Woodpeckers) hold on to one perch once it flips down and reach up to the hole next to the perch they're on to get seed. The feeder hangs on a pole with a baffle on it so the squirrels have given up. I recommend it only because I've not found another feeder that I'm willing to try yet. But it's kind of expensive.

I’ve had my feeder for about 6 months. The squirrels have learned to hang onto the spinner to get it to throw seed out. It lasts about 10 days before I have to refill. At least the squirrels have to work for it. Plenty of birds get to eat from it and they love it. This feeder is fantastic entertainment from my back porch. I would definitely buy again.

Best squirrel proof feeder I'e ever owned, but th springs that support the perches are terrible. If they ontinue producing this product, there must be springs available somewhere. Original price for the feeder does not put it in the throw away category when the 10 cent spring breaks.

This is the longest lasting bird feeder I've ever had, but now the springs inside are letting go, I lost two so far. I'm wondering if I can get replacement springs for it. I really don't want to spend the money on a new one as they aren't cheap.

Nope.

Nope. The feeder has been up for 1 week. It was fine until I looked this morning, and *poof*, the seed (the tube was filled 1/2 way) was gone. An expensive waste of both the seed and my money.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and are sorry to hear some critter stole your birdseed! Even for feeders with squirrel-repelling features, it's important to hang them at least 4 ft off the ground and 8 ft away from launch points. Please contact us at 800-352-9164 with any questions!
It's been tough for years for me.

I find the negative reviews interesting. I bought this feeder at least 15 years ago and it has held up very well until about eight months ago when one of the springs finally gave out. I did replace the plastic tube once 3 years ago due to significant Florida sun yellowing. I use a ten foot feeder pole with four hooks and a baffle. Now that the spring has been broken a squirrel has figured out how to hang on the bottom after he jumps out of a tree onto the pole above the baffle protection. I'd buy another if I needed one but the volume of seed it hold is so large one squirrel really isn't that big of adeal.

I would not call this feeder squirrel proof by any stretch, in less than 2 months the springs that hold the perches up broke and replacement springs are not available from Droll Yankee. I called and was told that they don't carry parts. At this point I don't even want a new feeder I just want my money back.

Very poorly made feeder. Not happy

We bought this feeder in dec 2021 as a Christmas present. By summer of 2022 the feeder had 2 of 4 springs broken. Now as of march 2023, 3 of 4 springs are broken making this very expensive feeder virtually useless. We are extremely disappointed and saddened by this. Not even 2 years old yet. I see I am not the only one having this issue. I hope the company will make reparations and create a better product in future!

We're sorry to hear about this experience! The key to successfully keeping a feeder squirrel-proof is its placement. Squirrels are agile and are able to jump up to 8ft horizontally and 4ft vertically. For this reason, we recommend that feeders be placed 8ft away from any structures that they can climb on so that they do not reach across to access the feeding holes. It can be helpful to trim back and prune any nearby bushes or branches within 12ft of a feeder. We also recommend that feeders be placed higher than 4ft off the ground, preventing the squirrels from jumping and grabbing onto the bottom. If you are using a hook or pole, we recommend that the hook have at least a 16in distance from the pole. The feeder is covered under a 30-day return policy. Please give us a call at 800-352-9164 for assistance.
