Helpfulness
Very unhappy with this feeder.

Very unhappy with this feeder. The orioles fly off because the feeding cubs are not stable. I bought this because of the glass and ease of cleaning. But I rehung my old discoloured plastic feeder (which I wanted to replace ) and now I have lots of orioles and humming birds. I really love the clean lines and shape and everything else but they need to change the feeding cub design.

The 3 food sources on the one feeder are terrific and it is easy to clean. It is very sturdy and versatile, and we love that you can convert it to a 4-port nectar feeder.

Like others, I've had similar problems with this feeder. The perches are loose and flimsy. When my orioles land on it, the perches move and seems to scare them off. I tried super gluing the perches in places, and the weight of the orioles popped the glue and refused to use it again. With all the wasps and bees my neighbor attracts with her honeysuckle, I'm sure if I had kept the feeder out for more than a couple weeks, the bees and wasps would have found it sooner or later and drowned inside it. That happened a few years ago in my ancient feeder that's the only one my orioles will use.

Wish I had read reviews before purchasing! Like others, my main problem is no bee guards (small flexible nipples to fit over ports from the inside) in spite of the claim to have them. Bees, wasps, bugs, earwigs, etc. all enter the nectar from the feeding ports and spoil the nectar. The perches are a joke too - broke very sooon after using - the lack of better designed ones may be why my orioles would not use it. Jelly cup is tiny and overflows, orange spikes break. I finally figured out how to fully take it apart for thorough cleaning and filling but had to take it out of service (hummers used it) because of the buggy nectar problem.

I would not buy again.

I would not buy this feeder again. I am very disappointed that wasps can climb in the holes and drown in the nectar. So can earwigs. I hang it with fishing line and keep the ant moat filled with water so those features work well. I do like the clear glass so I can see the nectar level and if a dead wasp inside. Is there a way I can prevent wasps going inside? Currently I have had to take my feeder down to keep wasps away. I tried moving it a distance but they were able to find again. I quit putting jelly out as well.

We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear the wasps are a problem! We recommend ensuring your feeder isn't leaking, as leaking nectar will draw wasps to the feeder. Please give us a call at 855-737-5973 with any questions! -Kathryn
Leaks After Minimal Use

This was going to be the third season for my Perky-Pet® Fruit Trio Oriole Nectar Feeder - 30 oz Nectar Capacity, which in the past I have filled & set out from mid-April to mid September. The feeder now leaks and loses its contents in about 2 days, no matter how tightly I screw the bottom on. I do not recommend this feeder.

No bee guards

‘Bee guards’ are listed both on the outer wrapping of this feeder and also in the description, but they aren’t there or do not work. Major design flaw. Although a few orioles visited- this feeder mostly had dead bees inside. )-:

I spent almost $30 on this and it is not a good feeder. The bottom does not screw closed, it does not even snap close, I am not sure how it even stays together when it is hanging up and because of this the ants and bees can get inside. Shortly after filling the feeder the ants and bugs are already inside. The cup does not hold much jelly and it runs down the side and the whole thing is lop sided when you put an orange on it. I would not recommend this at all.

We're sorry to hear about this experience. The cup for the jelly is small since it should be refreshed frequently to avoid spoiling in the open air. A tight connection between the base and the reservoir should prevent leaks, and reduce the interest of insects. Please give us a call at 855-737-5973 with any questions, we're happy to help. - Kathryn
Perches don't work

Note that this feeder is made of glass. Good for cleaning, but makes it a little more susceptible to breakage. My main complaint is that the perches are flimsy, too short so birds have difficulty getting to the feeding hole, and also swivel so when the birds fly off, they rotate to where they're no longer functional. To remedy, I've had to secure longer sticks which now gave the birds sufficient room and helped to keep the perches stable. Would not purchase a second time.

Not up to Perky Pet standards of old

I just purchased this Perky-Pet oriole feeder to replace Model # 449-2 because that one leaked from the day I hung it up. After reading the reviews, I saw that was a common complaint. I wish I had read the reviews for this one before I special ordered it. The fact that it cannot be fully disassembled for cleaning is a problem - a bit of soapy water swished around it in is not going to work. Also, it appears the flimsy plastic spike for holding a piece of orange will likely last, at most, for one season, though I can't imagine it's strong enough to pierce the skin of an orange in the first place. The lack of bee guards is a concern as well, as is the inability to remove the jelly container and the orange spike. I suspect this purchase will be returned before long. The best oriole feeder I've ever owned was also a Perky-Pet product, but I no long can find it for sale in Canada - that was the old 36 oz hex feeder with bee guards that allowed hummingbirds in and kept bees out, but moved out of the way when an oriole landed on the perch. Eventually the perches broke (after several years of use) but at one time I was even able to buy replacements for them. Wish I could get one of those again. The good news about this feeder is the wide mouth on the glass jar for ease of filling and the built in ant moat. They just aren't enough to make up for the design flaws of the base.
