Perky Pet took an excellent product and turned it into a cheap piece of junk. They replaced the metal chain (it is still shown in the picture) with a plastic chain that breaks. The crank on the bottom to release more jelly is also smaller which makes it difficult for someone with arthritis to turn.

For best results, we recommend filling the jelly cups without overfilling them and placing the feeder in a level location, as excess jelly can flow through the drainage holes during heavy feeding activity, rain, or high temperatures. The drainage holes are designed to help prevent water from collecting in the tray and to keep the jelly fresher for visiting orioles.

The concept is fantastic, and the feeder appears to be well made, but the whole thing flipped upside down the very first night, draining a whole jar of jelly onto the ground below. I'll have to rig something to keep it upright. Love the simplicity of this product, just need a better way to hold the jar in place.

If you're considering purchasing this, know that the chains are "plastic" and can very easily break when changing out jelly. I had to create a new chain using some wire so feeder would be balanced and hang properly. I have had 3 of these feeders now - first one had two chains break so it was tossed. Second one just had a chain link break, I repaired and rehung with some wire. My wife just bought our third unit, which also came with plastic chain. Opening it compelled me to find this site and leave this review so people know what they're getting.
So, don't expect longevity with this feeder unless you're prepared to fashion up a DIY fix for it when the plastic "chains" break. If Perky Pet would correct this chain issue, it's a 5-star unit in my opinion.

The product is clever. I bought a replacement this year because I lost my original one when we moved. I hate the plastic chains. They are horrible. Please go back to metal chains.

Terrible product. What a cheap product. If you have to replace the stupid plastic chains with metal chains why buy this product. Very disappointing

These were great feeders when the chains were metal, but the plastic chains are terrible!! As soon as a squirrel or raccoon tries to eat from it, the chain breaks.

If this came with an actual CHAIN this would be great, but it comes with a piece of crap plastic "chain" that breaks easily often times in the first year. I will save my home-made METAL chains.

Very disappointed in the cheap plastic chain. I love these feeders and have purchased several in the past from local retailers and they came with metal chains to hang. These new ones are plastic and come apart easily. I live in Kansas, WINDY Kansas. I know these are not going to last with those cheap plastic chains. I will have to use another way to hang my feeder, or it will end up on the ground. I would highly suggest that you return to metal chains.
