I have been buying "petunia" ...
Nov 8, 2024
I have been buying "petunia" perky pet humming feeders for over five years and they are the best. At first, I found that the float would fill with the humming bird mix and fail to rise causing terrible leaking. I found the problem to be cheap glue was used to seal the pieces of the float. To remedy the problem, I super glued the whole area around the fitted parts of the float. And whadaya know, the float was sealed. So, the first thing I do when getting a new feeder is to seal the float with super glue, and I have a feeder that lasts for years. I give a lot of them away to friends and family. and they love em'.

Buy a different feeder ...
The first time I used it - it held the nectar no problem. The 2nd time, after disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling - the entire reservoir was empty within 2 hours (dripping all over the ground). I disassembled it again, cleaned it and this time just filled with water and left it in my sink to test it - and when I checked it out - again it was empty. The clear bottle is tightly screwed into the red base - but the base has some internal pieces that never really lock into place and the bottom of the base gaps open from the top of the base. Wish I had seen these reviews before buying it at the local Ace Hardware.

I would have given 5 stars if the float didn't leak. I split it, cleaned it, then laid down a bead of super glue and it's now making birds happy.
*I would love to see this top fill version for Orioles!
I purchased this hummingbird feeder ...

I purchased this hummingbird feeder this summer at Jackalope in Albuquerque, NM for $28 (I think). Soon after the purchase I noticed that the feeder was leaking. I tried it again and it continued to leak. I totally wasted $28 and it made a mess twice in my gravel which caused ants. Have not used the feeder since. Mine is a $28 piece of junk.

Thank you for this feedback. We are sorry to hear that your feeder is leaking. When filling a feeder, it is important to ensure that the base and bottle are tightened so they are snug. We also suggest hanging the feeder in a shaded location, free of wind and direct sunlight. As the sun warms up the nectar inside the bottle, the liquid will expand, which can cause some to leak. If the area is overly windy, the feeder will tilt, disrupting the vacuum inside the feeder, allowing the nectar to pour out.
If these tips don't resolve the leaking, we are happy to issue a replacement within one year of purchase. Please feel free to reach out to us via the Contact Us page for assistance.
I love these feeders because ...they are easy to clean and to fill.

I love these feeders because they are easily disassembled and cleaned. Be sure to look at the floater and reassemble with the side up that is marked "This Side Up". The only reason I gave a 4 is because they can be prone to leak. The leaking is caused by the floater taking on nectar which causes it to sink. You can verify this by placing the floater in water in your sink. Your feeder will be leaking if it does not float in the water.

Leaks and Won't Stop!

I can't get this thing to stop leaking all the nectar all over the ground. The nectar comes out from where the two halves of the bottom come together. I've tried making it as tight as I can and I've tried making it loose.I've taken it completely apart to clean it and reassembled it and still it leaks. I thought the hummers were just hungry, but now that it hasn't rained for a few days I see the nectar is all over the ground below it. I think I will have to return it if that's possible. I've had other Perky Pet feeders that have worked just fine.

We're sorry to hear about this! Be sure to check that the base is tight, and that the bottle neck threads line up correctly to help prevent leaking. For best results, we recommend hanging the feeder in the shade as well as out of high traffic or windy areas. For further assistance, please feel free to give us a call at 855-737-5973.
