Difficult Cleaning

Right next to where I clicked to add a review, there is a tab for "Ask a Question." I clicked on that and got nothing. I am wondering if there's a better way to clean this. Seems to me the bottom should come off of the clear cylinder. After some rain, the seed got very wet and caked. I had to resort to using a long marshmallow stick to try to scrape it out. Many of my other birdfeeders have removable bases. I watched the cleaning video and evidently the base doesn't come off. Is this the case?

Easily broken plastic parts

The plastic “stick/rod” that goes through the top of the feeder and supports the hanger broke the first time I had to open the feeder for a refill. I definitely did not expect that from a $40+ purchase. The store where I bought the feeder suggested I contact the company for a replacement part. Obviously, I will not be shopping there again. But I found no option for replacement parts or company contact about that on the website.

Destroyed in 2 weeks

I bought this and within 2 weeks the squirrels had chewed through the plastic bar that holds the top and hanger. This knocked the feeder to the ground and seed everywhere for the squirrels to eat.

We're sorry to hear the squirrels damaged your feeder! To help prevent them from reaching even squirrel-resistant feeders, we recommend placing them at least 4 ft off the ground and 8 ft away from launching points like trees and fence. Please contact us at 855-737-5973 with any questions regarding our 1-year replacement policy.

Update, Perky Pet honored the warranty and sent me a replacement, and I have escalated my battle with the squirrels. I removed the plastic dowel which the squirrels ate through 2x. I replaced it with two clevis pins made of metal. Had to do some bending with plyers, which I realize Perky may not recommend, but the feeder is doomed without a metal dowel with these New Jersey Squirrels. So I had to take off the plastic dowel, and replace with clevis pins as seen in pics below. I realize I may have voided the warranty, but Perky honored it originally so I have no issue taking the chance. Will let you know in year. Thanks to Perky Pet for honoring warranty. This feeder has been great other than the plastic dowel, and I hope this lasts.

This product is a good idea however, the plastic cone in the bottom of the seed chamber will not sustain the weight of squirrels jumping on the metal base of the feeder; my experience has been the bottom of the feed chamber fails. I believe the base of the feed chamber should be metal capable of holding the weight of a squirrel jumping on the feeding stations from at least 2 feet away.

This is an update to my earlier one-star review of this product, based on the replacement feeder I received under warranty.

This is an update to the previous one-star review I wrote several weeks ago. Since that time, Perky Pet was gracious enough to replace my original Squirrel Slammer feeder with a new one under warranty, and I'm pleased to say that it works much better than the first one. The "slammer" sliding shield works much more smoothly on the new feeder, and this has left the squirrels hungry and frustrated for the most part. In fact, they've mostly given up on the feeder and have stopped jumping up on it to try to get a few seeds. So tyhanks very much, Perky Pet! My only criticism at this point is that the slider shield is still a bit stiff if it is pulled down from one side; I think the feeder could be improved greatly by adding a sleeve (or a few strips) of Teflon or HDPE between the sliding sleeve and the body of the feeder, to truly eliminate binding when the slider is loaded from the side.

The concept of this feeder ...

The concept of this feeder is great, but its execution is deeply flawed. I bought this feeder at a "big box" store about a month ago, and while the slider base works fine if you pull it straight down, when it's loaded from one side or the other (as when a squirrel jumps up onto it) it tilts a bit and binds against the barrel of the feeder. This keeps it from sliding down far enough to block the openings, and the squirrel just sits there are feasts until I see it and chase it away. Is this a fault with my particular feeder, or is it a fundamental design flaw? If my particular feeder is faulty for having this problem, I'd be happy to return it to you in exchange for a new one.

Oh no, we are sorry to hear that this is happening! The ports should be closing even if a squirrel is jumping on from the side. Please give us a call directly so we can get this taken care of for you. - Susan
Squirrrels chewed off the green plastic bar that holds the lid to the feeder. It took about a year. It fell and smashed. I replaced it and duhhhh, the squirrels have good memory, they chewed the new one off in under two weeks. Please send me a replacement

Bought this feeder Jan 19th 2022 - it is now Feb 26th 2022 and the squirrels have chewed through the plastic crossbar that connects to the top rendering it completely useless! I have read other reviews where customers have complained about this same issue. The tension adjustment didn’t seem to work correctly either. Around the end of January I discarded my receipt so there is no chance of proving I bought this or procuring another. I gave given 2 stars simply for the enjoyment I got from watching the birds enjoying themselves for the time I had this feeder.
