Clear Nectar FAQs
Q: Why buy dye-free hummingbird nectar?
A: Perky-Pet® offers feeders that carry an array of proven attractants to hummingbirds. If you are looking for nectar that does not contain artificial colors, look no further! We asked ourselves “Why not provide a more natural food source to hummers?” That’s just what we did!
Q: What's the best way to fill a feeder?
A: When filling your hummingbird feeder make sure to follow its fill instructions. Some feeders are top-fill, others are bottom-fill. Do a few practice runs with water so you don’t waste your nectar.
Q: Why does my hummingbird nectar ooze out of my feeder?
A: Sudden temperature changes can cause a feeder to rapidly overflow or drip nectar. This often happens when you partially fill a feeder inside and then take it outside. The sudden change in temperature expands the air trapped in the bottle and the pressure pushes the nectar out. We suggest you completely fill your feeder bottle when inside or fill it outside after your nectar reaches air temperature.
Q: What's the best location for a feeder?
A: Hummingbird feeders do best when hung where they get southeastern exposure. Hummingbirds also prefer to feed in areas where there are few obstructions, which can be used by predators to hide.
Q: Bugged by bugs?
A: Equip your feeders with Perky-Pet® Ant Guards. The guards, filled with bird-safe Permethrin, keep ants from drinking nectar.
Q: How do I mix this concentrate?
A: Mix 4 teaspoons of nectar concentrate for every 3 fluid oz of water.
