This feeder will rust By Lorine

I have 3 perky pet hummingbird feeders and only one in this particular design and it RUSTED on inside. I hope I didnt poison the little birds. This one was made with inferior material. DONT BUY IT! I clean my feeders every week. The others that I have are older and never ever rusted. The other two I have are the perky pet green bottle large and small. They have been great, although difficult to clean even with the right brush.

Rusted By JohnHenry

I also initially thought, as others have stated, that this was the perfect Hummingbird feeder until the metal portion started to rust and subsequently turned my nectar rust colored. If the metal plate is powder coated as stated, Perky Pet needs to find a better alternative.

Best feeder ever By San-Ken

I bought two of these feeders for my backyard. It has been in the rain and no problem of rust. My hummingbirds line up to feed from this great feeder. I change the sugar water once a week, or sooner if it gets warm and wash it with soapy water at each changing of the water. Just bought two more to have four in my yard. Love it!

Terrible problem with rust! Health concern for the hummingbirds! By KLB

I was very happy with the appearance of this hummingbird feeder when it first arrived, but I was soon very disappointed. While this feeder looks very nice, I found that the inside of the metal portion where the nectar goes soon started to show rust. Even more concerning to me than the appearance of the feeder was the fact I also started noticing a metallic smell when I went to change the sugar water. This feeder looks very nice at first, but I am certain that the rust must not be healthy for the hummingbirds! I'm extremely disappointed with this feeder. When I began having this problem I looked online and saw that many other reviewers on various other online sites also mentioned this problem. I'm concerned that you are still selling this hummingbird feeder when the rust problem seems to be an ongoing concern.

FAQs

Hummingbird Feeders - FAQs

Q: Will hummingbirds really come to this feeder? Aren't hummingbird feeders supposed to be red??

A: As long as your hummingbirds know to look for a feeder, they don't care what color your feeders are. That being said, we did make the feeder port "flowers" red as an extra encouragement for your curious little visitors.

Q: How do I clean this hummingbird feeder?

A: This is an easy hummingbird feeder to clean thanks to its wide-mouth design. Simple empty out the nectar, unscrew the base, pop off the lid and wash in a mild soap and water solution.

The lid to the feeder base is easy to pop off. Just slide a pencil or a flat tipped screwdriver between the threaded area of the base and the metal lid. It should easily snap apart.

Q: Will the metal feeding ports hurt my hummingbirds?

A: The metal flowers on the lid of this feeder are attached with smooth grommets. These grommets will not scratch or gouge the bill of your visiting hummingbirds.

Q: Why is my feeder suddenly leaking from the feeder ports?

A: If your feeder starts to empty out the nectar through its feeder ports, it isn't broken or leaking. What's happening is the air bubble inside the feeder is heating up, which causes the gas inside to expand. This expansion pushes the nectar out through the feeder ports. Resolve this problem by topping off the nectar in your feeder or by moving the entire feeder into a shaded location.
