Assembly & Mounting

Perky-Pet® Smart Camera Feeders are easy to use. Once you’ve completed the pairing process, it’s time to assemble your feeder and hang it in its new home. Follow our Assembly & Mounting guide to prepare your new feeder for visitors!

Feeder Assembly

Before you can hang up your feeder and start receiving visits from your feathered friends, you'll need to assemble your new feeder.

Assembling the Smart Camera Squirrel-Resistant Bird Feeder

While the Perky-Pet® Smart Camera Squirrel-Resistant Bird Feeder does not require “assembly,” a few parts do arrive folded up to conserve space in the package. To get your feeder ready to use:

  1. Fully extend the metal hanger on top of the feeder.
  2. Flip down the weight-activated perch.

Assembling the Smart Camera Hummingbird Feeder

The Perky-Pet® Smart Camera Hummingbird Feeder requires minimal assembly. To get your feeder ready to use:

Attach flower ports: The nectar tray comes with flower ports already attached but comes with two additional color sets so you can customize your feeder as desired.

  1. To change the ports, pull the attached ports off the nectar tray.
  2. To assemble your new ports, attach your preferred colors of bee-proof port and flower to the perch.
  3. Press the individual flower port assemblies into each port base on the nectar tray.

Insert nectar tray: Place the nectar tray into the hummingbird feeder housing. Make sure to align the notch on the back of the tray with the notch on the housing so the tray is fully seated. Aligning the notch ensures the camera has the best view of the perches and visiting birds.

Attaching the Camera

Once the camera is charged and paired (see our Quick Start Guide for more info), it’s time to mount it to your feeder housing. Installing the camera is easy.

  1. Power the camera ON and close the rubber cover (this will protect the charging port from moisture and debris).
  2. With the power switch facing down, slide the camera onto the black mounting plate inside the feeder housing. You will hear it click into place once it’s secured.

Hanging the Feeder

Now that your feeder is paired and assembled, you’re ready to hang it up and start receiving visitors. Before choosing a spot for your feeder, check that your preferred spot has enough Wi-Fi coverage. The camera will perform best when placed within 50 ft of the Wi-Fi router.

Pick a spot with a nice backdrop, like flowers and greenery or a favorite angle of your house. But also make sure it’s bird-friendly so your feathered friends will be comfortable visiting.

Hanging the Smart Camera Squirrel-Resistant Bird Feeder

Proper placement is crucial for maximum squirrel proofing. Hang the feeder with at least 18 inches of clearance on all sides so squirrels can’t easily reach the ports without activating the perch. Before hanging your Perky-Pet® Smart Camera Squirrel-Resistant Bird Feeder, here are a few things to do:

  1. Adjust the weight-activated perch. Squirrel size can vary by species and age, so you may want to experiment with different weight settings until you get the best results. Be sure to use the same weight setting on both sides.

To increase weight sensitivity, raise the metal adjustment bars to a higher position.
To decrease weight sensitivity, lower the adjustment bars

  2. Fully extend the metal hanger and make sure the Sure-Lock™ caps are pressed against the lid to lock it in place.
  3. Ensure the perch is flipped down, so it lays flat (it arrives folded upright to conserve space in the box).

Hanging the Smart Camera Hummingbird Feeder

If ants are a problem for hummingbird feeders in your area, traditional hanging is preferred as it is the method that allows for use of the included ant moat.

  1. Attach the included metal S-hook to the hook mount on top of the feeder. The smaller end of the S-hook should connect to the hook mount.
  2. Hang the larger end of the metal S-hook from a Shepherd’s hook, tree branch, etc.

Optional: If using the included ant moat, attach it to the larger end of the feeder’s metal S-hook. Attach the smaller S-hook to the top of the ant moat and hang the entire assembly. Then fill the ant moat with water. The water will prevent ants from traveling down to the nectar tray.

Mounting the Smart Camera Hummingbird Feeder

In addition to traditional hanging, the Perky-Pet® Smart Camera Hummingbird Feeder can also be mounted.

  1. Place the feeder against the wall/post and use a pencil to mark the mounting slots.
  2. Remove the feeder and screw the included mounting screws into the marked spots.
  3. Align the feeder with the screws and slide it down until it is slotted into place. Tighten the screws as needed.
