Feed birds (not squirrels!) with the revolutionary Squirrel-X8 Squirrel-Resistant Bird Feeder! If a squirrel or larger bird tries to feed on any of the 4 spring-loaded perches, the X8's integrated design shuts every port simultaneously. And if a squirrel tries to hang from the top, the X8's weight-sensitive lid shuts every port, while the elongated tube further deters racketeering rodents. The cap is nestled within the tube to keep squirrels from accessing the seed. The large viewing window lets you know when it's time to refill, and the wide top opening makes cleaning and refilling a breeze! With a 2.5 lb. seed capacity, the Squirrel-X8 keeps songbirds happy and coming back for more!

Placement to deter squirrels: The key to keeping a bird feeder successfully squirrel-proofed is the placement. Place your bird feeder 4 feet from the ground and 8 feet from anything a squirrel can jump from. When hanging from a pole by a hook, it is recommended that the hook have at least a 16” distance from the pole. Placing a baffle on the pole or having a caged feeder will also help to ensure squirrel-proof success.

Cleaning: Dirty bird feeders spread disease. We recommend cleaning your feeders weekly, or monthly at a minimum. Do not put your feeder in the dishwasher as the high temperatures can permanently damage the feeder parts. Clean your feeders outdoors with a large bucket, and always wear gloves when cleaning. Soak your feeder in a 9:1 solution of water and bleach for 15 minutes. Then use a bird feeder brush to scrub the feeder with dish soap and water. Refill when completely dry.

Helpfulness
Got as retirement gift. Leak problem easily solved.

Got as retirement gift. Decided to read reviews b/4 hanging - saw about the rain getting in problem. Took plastic container cover about size of top and put small hole - pulled wire thru and VOILA ! it works - and it actually rained and a bit of light snow after. Still working. I have since bought small baffle/rain guard to go on top - not here yet. Squirrels are P'D off they can't figure it out and the birds love they have their own feeder. I love there are still seeds left early morning - I don't have to go out.

This is the poorest feeder ...

This is the poorest feeder design I have ever purchased. Sure, birds will come but when the rain comes the seed of any type will be drenched and cannot be cleaned out. This should be marketed as sold as a “seed germination device” as opposed to bird feeder. The engineer has made the fill port susceptible to rain water seeping down the cover, never occurred to him to design a rubber seal or leak proof port cover, he should be ashamed. Cleaning out the moldy crusty seed is impossible with a full tear down, and you get the chance to thus cleaning after every rain! Piss poor design, do not purchase . I could not even select Zero stars in this survey.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the Squirrel-X® X8 Squirrel-Resistant Bird Feeder. Moisture buildup can occur if rain enters through the fill port or collects inside the seed reservoir. Hanging the feeder in a covered or partially sheltered area and cleaning it regularly can help prevent seed spoilage. We appreciate your feedback and will share your comments with our product team as they continue improving the feeder’s weather resistance and ease of cleaning.
If I could give less ...

If I could give less than one star I would. Like other commenters have said, after the first rain this feeder clogs with soaked seed. It's impossible to clean as recommended (it says don't turn the feeder upside down but work the seed out of the tiny port openings) because there's no way to get the clumps through. Even when dry, the openings are too small for most seed. Very disappointed in this feeder.

Birdfeeder is horrible.

May 25, 2025
Birdfeeder is horrible. The top does not seal tightly so water gets into the seed. Seed becomes a solid mass with sprouts. Had to throw out all the seed from my first and only use. Couldn’t figure out why the birds were not using it. Sad for me since I do not have the receipt, and am pretty sure it is past the 30 days. Very disappointed.

Very poor dispersion.

Very poor dispersion. Not only prevents squirrels from feeding, but also birds. The ports easily clog and seeds remain stuck. It needs much more design work.

Pro: The cover keeps squirrels off. Con: The feeder does not dispense black sunflower seeds after the birds have eaten the seeds in the tray.

Mixed feelings.

Mixed feelings. Love the feeder and birds went right to it after a day or two. Squirrels haven’t bothered with it which is good because I feed the birds next to the squirrels tree. Mix feelings comes in because it was out just a week or so and the first rain storm the seed inside is soggy now.

For some reason, the birds ignore this feeder! I used the same seed I use in other feeders. Then I tried different seed. I moved it from place to place. Would not buy again!

We appreciate your feedback regarding this feeder. Birds are creatures of habit and it can take time for them to try a new feeder. Please contact us at 855-737-5973 for additional tips on how to attract birds to feeders.
Soggy & frozen bird seed

This is by far the worst bird feeder I’ve purchased. It allows moisture to get inside the seed area and then the bird feed either swells or freezes. Money lost on this one.

Q&A

Do you have a video of how to clean this feeder? How does it come apart
Question by: Kera on Jan 8, 2026, 3:47 PM
We do have an official cleaning video, you can find it in our website, the More Birds® Squirrel-X X8 Bird Feeder comes apart for cleaning. The spring-loaded perches and feeder tube pull straight off the center post so you can wash each piece with mild soap and water. Let everything dry completely before reassembling.

You can also check the product instructions on our website for step-by-step guidance.
