The Downy Woodpecker is the smallest and most prevalent woodpecker in North America. It only reaches a length of 6-7 inches - quite small by woodpecker standards!
The unmistakable sound of the Downy Woodpecker can be heard as it taps into trees and weed stems searching for some of its favorite foods which include a variety of insects!
