The last 4 years I had a beautiful hummingbird feeder, but the shape made it hard to clean. Knowing Perky Pet feeders are featured at our trusted local hardware store, we bought this one. I wish I had seen the reviews earlier. We have many of the same problems. We bought it in April 2026, and it's not even been used an entire 2 months. The base has scraped and left a residue and started to leave a residue inside the nectar. There is no rubber gasket on the base to the glass jar, so it leaked attracting wasps. The leaking also caused the base to harden to the jar. As you can see from the pictures, the base stuck so hard that the jar broke when taking it apart. I have cleaned it regularly and thoroughly.

I own a perky pet mason jar hummingbird feeder. I didn't get to use it very many years because the base went bad! I really regret not being able to order a new base. I would like to continue to use the jar, but I cannot locate a new base for it! It seems like I have to buy plastic hummingbird feeders every year!!

The metal tray of this product rusts which is a function of how it is designed. Very disappointed as the jar is lovely and now can’t be used. I have several other glass ones you make and the trays are fine. Why can’t you make a tray that does not rust?

Love the glass design but unfortunately the paint peeled off of the inside of metal base and then there was rusting. I tried to find a replacement bottom but to no avail.

As others have complained, I too are not happy with this product.
It's the bottom piece that rusts and paint peels, also noticed mold growing on the piece thats riveted to the base. I ran a paper towel under the part that has holes, and couldnt believe how nasty it was. I hope I didnt harm any humming birds.

I too had rusting parts by the end of the season. Very disappointed, and do wish the company could simply mail me a plastic replacement that could screw onto the red mason jar...or really I think just a plastic bottom may suffice. It's been easy to clean and my favorite feeder yet...to this point.

Bought this for the pretty red mason jar, but the metal part of the base rusts on the inside after a year of use, turning the nectar rusty and brown, even when cleaned and nectar changed every 2-3 days. Very disappointing. Looks like many others have had same problem. Wish there was a plastic replacement base for these so we didn’t all have to throw in the landfill after a year or less of use. My last feeder has lasted over 15 years. (Plastic base).

The jar simply screws on and off the base. If it’s difficult to open, we recommend gently twisting it counterclockwise while holding the base securely. Sometimes, residue or tight factory sealing can make the first opening a bit harder.

Why does the base of this feeder rust so bad? When I clean, any leftover solution is rusty colored. That can't be good for the birds.
