It’s a shame this feeder is not quality made. I really wanted this feeder. But like everyone else on here, my bottom metal piece started paint peeling and rust after the very first use. Please don’t tell me it’s a cleaning issue or liquid left in it too long like you have told others. It’s just not good. You should be offering a replacement part (I know, you say you don’t make them) but you should. Just really poor quality.

Purchased this jar feeder because of Perky Pet reputation and previous experience with this brand. This feeder absolutely is not up to the standard or quality of previous feeders that I have purchased. Ive only had this for approximately 2 weeks. I wondered why my birds were not using it, each time that I took down the nectar was turned color form something in the metal bottom. The metal bottom has also turned colors; it is not rusty. I am not sure what is going on but wasted money on this feeder and money for the nectar. Please be cautious purchasing this particular feeder.

For best results, we recommend cleaning the feeder thoroughly before each refill using warm water and a mild soap, rinsing it completely, and allowing all parts to dry before adding fresh nectar. Hummingbird nectar should also be changed regularly, especially during warm weather. When new, this is a 5 star product...but there are rusting issues.

When new, this is a 5 star product! The hummingbirds at our Colorado mountain home favor this feeder over any others. The wide mouth glass jar is easy to clean. My complaint is about the base which rusts after a couple of years, even with regular cleaning. The base has a "lid" like part that connects to the jar which is connected by a rivet to the tray that holds the liquid. There is no way to take them apart to clean really well between the pieces. This probably contributes to the rusting. I'd be happy if I could buy replacement bases every few years, rather than a whole new feeder. I'm waiting for a response to that question.

Rusted piece of garbage withing weeks of purchase...

While grabbing a few items at Ace, I saw this feeder and bought it. Blinded by supporting a local company (and the feeder was pretty), I didn't bother looking at reviews online. But holy... this feeder is completely rusted to garbage in the span of 2 months. Perky-Pet needs to offer replacement bottoms of this feeder (probably in plastic — disappointing), or take this product off the market. This is completely unacceptable to sell a product of this subpar quality.

I have had to purchase new ones every year because of the RUST that then infiltrates the food!!! I would be more than happy to purchase new tray parts instead of the entire product. I came to the website expecting to purchase parts, and that option is not offered. Until you offer it, this will be the final year I buy another complete feeder. I'm tired of wasting my money.

The last 4 years I had a beautiful hummingbird feeder, but the shape made it hard to clean. Knowing Perky Pet feeders are featured at our trusted local hardware store, we bought this one. I wish I had seen the reviews earlier. We have many of the same problems. We bought it in April 2026, and it's not even been used an entire 2 months. The base has scraped and left a residue and started to leave a residue inside the nectar. There is no rubber gasket on the base to the glass jar, so it leaked attracting wasps. The leaking also caused the base to harden to the jar. As you can see from the pictures, the base stuck so hard that the jar broke when taking it apart. I have cleaned it regularly and thoroughly.

I own a perky pet mason jar hummingbird feeder. I didn't get to use it very many years because the base went bad! I really regret not being able to order a new base. I would like to continue to use the jar, but I cannot locate a new base for it! It seems like I have to buy plastic hummingbird feeders every year!!

The metal tray of this product rusts which is a function of how it is designed. Very disappointed as the jar is lovely and now can’t be used. I have several other glass ones you make and the trays are fine. Why can’t you make a tray that does not rust?

Love the glass design but unfortunately the paint peeled off of the inside of metal base and then there was rusting. I tried to find a replacement bottom but to no avail.

Why does the base of this feeder rust so bad? When I clean, any leftover solution is rusty colored. That can't be good for the birds.

The jar simply screws on and off the base. If it’s difficult to open, we recommend gently twisting it counterclockwise while holding the base securely. Sometimes, residue or tight factory sealing can make the first opening a bit harder.
