Varied Thrush

The Varied Thrush, known by scientists as Ixoreus naevius, is a bright orange and black bird common in California and the Pacific Northwest, especially in the deep forests there.

These beauties are known for their haunting whistles that seem to permeate through forests without ever letting themselves be seen.

Though elusive, this ground forager is often drawn to feeders in the winter.
