Thinking Outside the Feeder

Some styles have a bee guard, which consists of a plastic screen in front of the port or a raised port to prevent bees from gaining access. Other styles have an added “anti-ant” feature called an ant moat. Fill the moat with water to prevent ants from coming down the feeder to the nectar ports. Feeders can also have perches on them – hummingbirds will feed with or without them, so it's your choice whether you want to provide that little bit of extra comfort.

Funnel Fill Hummingbird Feeders

Perky-Pet® offers two different, patented designs of funnel-fill feeders. The first has a cone-like, recessed bottom which functions... well, like a funnel – for fastidious pouring and easier filling. This unique design makes it easy to keep the reservoir full; you don't need a spout, external funnel or any other accessory. And you never have to worry about spilling again. After filling the glass reservoir with nectar, just replace the plug and invert the feeder to activate the feeding ports. Nectar channels in the base regulate the amount of nectar flow into the feeding station, helping to keep the nectar fresher longer.

The second design is equally as straightforward; it incorporates a removable cap that can act as a funnel when put in the bottle, again, making pouring easy and minimizing spills. Window Mounted Hummingbird Feeders
